From Dalyan to Ekincik: Nature and History in Muğla in One Day

This single-day route in Muğla's Ortaca district will introduce you to traces of ancient times and enchant you with its unique natural beauties. This trip, with a total of four different stops, starts from Dalyan's famous rock tombs, extends to Iztuzu Beach, home to loggerhead sea turtles, and ends in the tranquil Ekincik Bay. Dalyan

Dalyan, located in Muğla's Ortaca district, where Köyceğiz Lake meets the Mediterranean, stands out with both its historical and natural beauties. In this town, built on the ancient city of Kaunos, the most striking structure is the Kaunos King Rock Tombs rising on the opposite bank of the delta. Boat tours along the Dalyan River take you to these tombs and the ruins of the ancient city. Iztuzu Beach

Your next stop after Dalyan is Iztuzu Beach, approximately 4.5 km long. Surrounded by the waves of the Mediterranean on one side and the calm waters and reeds of the Dalyan delta on the other, this beach offers a unique view. It is especially known as a nesting area for Caretta caretta turtles. The beach, surrounded by mountains, is also visually very impressive. You can allocate 1-2 hours here for swimming and relaxing.

Loggerhead Sea Turtles – Iztuzu Beach

Iztuzu Beach is more than just a beach; it is one of the most important nesting grounds for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) in Turkey. These endangered creatures come here every year to lay their eggs. These turtles, which can reach lengths of 1.5 meters and weights of 150 kilograms, can be seen on the beach during the nesting season. Especially the moments when baby turtles walk to the sea offer an unforgettable experience. Allocate at least 1.5 hours to observe this natural miracle.

Ekincik Bay

The last stop of the day, Ekincik Bay, is an untouched bay surrounded by pine forests, located in the Köyceğiz district. It is one of the popular stops on the blue cruise route between Marmaris and Göcek. With its natural harbor and long, clean beach, it offers a peaceful environment for both campers and those arriving by boat. You can swim in its calm waters and take short walks in the surrounding forested area. You can spend approximately 1.5 hours here as well.

To reach Dalyan, you can use minibuses departing from Ortaca or boat tours. For dining, there are many restaurant options in Dalyan center; you should especially try fresh fish.
