I have prepared a three-day route starting from the lush nature of Bursa and extending to the epic lands of Çanakkale. This program is perfect for solo travelers who want to experience both the cool plateaus of Marmara and the historical winds of the Aegean. A different theme and memories await you each day.
Uludağ
Uludağ, the symbol of Bursa, is the highest point in Marmara with its peak at 2,543 meters. Although known as a ski resort in winter, it also attracts visitors with its nature walks and cool air in summer. While ascending to the summit by cable car, it is possible to watch the panoramic view of the Bursa Plain and the Marmara Sea. You can walk on the trails within the National Park and discover the Softaboğan and Saitabat waterfalls. The Sirk Lakes near the summit of Uludağ also offer a unique beauty.
Uludağ National Park
Uludağ National Park, protected since 1961, spans a vast area of 13,024 hectares. Forests, pastures, and high-altitude plateaus coexist here. The park, which stands out with its endemic flora and wildlife, is ideal for camping and nature walks, especially in summer. Thanks to the easy access by cable car, you can find yourself in the heart of nature in a short time from the center of Bursa.
Aras Waterfall
Located next to Uludağ National Park, Aras Waterfall is reached by a 2 km walk from Ketenli Plateau, connected to Osmangazi, and is situated at an altitude of 1950 meters. This waterfall, which cascades 15 meters from the stream carrying the meltwaters of Uludağ, offers a cool and peaceful environment with its surrounding dense pine and beech forests. It is a pleasant stop for nature lovers with its walking routes and plateau views.
Kürekli Stream Waterfall
Kürekli Stream Waterfall, located near Hamamlıkızık village, 24 kilometers from Bursa city center, cascades in four stages from a height of 82 meters over the Deliçay. It offers an impressive sight, especially in spring and early summer when the water flow is high. It is a peaceful escape point with picnic areas and nature walking routes. The forested area around the waterfall is perfect for resting and getting fresh air.
After your nature discovery in Bursa, on the second day, we turn the route to Çanakkale. After a journey of approximately 3-3.5 hours, you will find yourself in an epic history.
Kilitbahir Castle Museum
Kilitbahir Castle, built by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1463 with a triangular plan, is strategically located at the narrowest point of the Dardanelles. The castle, with its seven-story inner tower, showcases the Ottoman defense system. There is also a section where Piri Reis's world map is exhibited. The excavation finds within the castle and the Hisar Peçe defense courtyard offer visitors a journey through history.
Çanakkale Naval Museum
Located in the city center, within Çimenlik Castle, the Naval Museum houses important artifacts from the Çanakkale Naval Battle. A replica of the Nusret Mine Layer and the S-338 submarine are the most striking pieces of the open-air exhibition. This historical castle, where Piri Reis penned his Kitab-ı Bahriye, was also built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet. The museum is an important stop to understand the naval dimension of the war.
Çanakkale City Museum and Archive
Located on Fetvane Street, opposite Yalı Mosque, this small museum exhibits the daily life of Çanakkale from ancient times to the Republic. Objects, photographs, and documents donated by local people shed light on the city's social and cultural history. Since admission is free, it can be easily visited and is a good starting point to understand the spirit of the city.
Aynalı Çarşı
Aynalı Çarşı, which gave its name to the Çanakkale folk song, is a historical building constructed in 1889. The bazaar, which stands out with its red stone arched gate and trilingual inscription, today hosts souvenir shops. Here you can buy small souvenirs for your loved ones and take a short stroll in the historical atmosphere of the bazaar.
On the third day, we will delve into the depths of the Gallipoli Peninsula and trace the footsteps of the Çanakkale Wars.
Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Area
This vast area of 33,444 hectares is an open-air museum covering the fronts, bays, and ridges where the Çanakkale Wars took place. It houses many important points such as the Martyrs' Memorial, Conkbayırı, and Anzac Cove. Dedicating a full day to visit this area, and if possible with a guide, will help you better understand what happened. Free admission is a great convenience for visitors.
Bigalı Atatürk House and Museum
This two-story house, located in Bigalı village connected to Eceabat, was used by Mustafa Kemal as the headquarters of the 19th Division in 1915. The house, with its period items and scenes animated with mannequins, makes visitors feel those days. Mustafa Kemal is known to have made his strategic decisions during the Çanakkale Battles here. Admission is free, and the flag-decorated streets of the village are also worth seeing.
Conkbayırı Atatürk Victory Monument
Conkbayırı is the hill where Mustafa Kemal personally led the bayonet charge on August 10, 1915. It is also known as the place where a shrapnel piece hitting his chest shattered his watch and saved his life. The bronze monument built in 1993 commemorates this important event. Lieutenant Nazif Çakmak Martyrs' Cemetery and preserved trench lines can also be seen here. With its view of the Dardanelles, Conkbayırı is an important point to witness history.
57th Infantry Regiment Martyrs' Memorial
The 57th Infantry Regiment Martyrs' Memorial, located at the foothills of Conkbayırı, was built in memory of the regiment members who resisted the Anzac landing on April 25, 1915, and carried out Mustafa Kemal's order 'I order you to die'. Reliefs, Hüseyin Kaçmaz's bronze statue, and marble plaques with the names of the martyrs are important details to commemorate those who gave their lives for the homeland here. The visit is free and offers an emotional experience.
This three-day solo route begins with the natural beauties of Bursa and ends with the deep history of Çanakkale. Since public transportation options may be limited in both cities, especially for visiting the historical areas in Çanakkale, renting a car might be a more comfortable option. For food, you can try İskender kebab in Bursa and fresh seafood in Çanakkale.
