Gebekum Beach

The most suitable period for Gebekum is May-June and September-October. During these months, the air temperature is suitable for enjoying the sea, and you avoid the July-August crowds and strong meltemi winds. The meltemi wind strengthens particularly in mid-summer on the Datça Peninsula; this should be taken into account at Gebekum, which is an open and shadeless beach. In winter, the area becomes deserted. For those who want to take photos or go for a walk, spring mornings offer a very calm atmosphere.

Reaching Gebekum by private car or rental car is the most practical way. When driving from Datça center towards Karaincir, or returning from Karaincir to Datça, you will encounter a small and quite indistinct sign on the left side of the main road. Visitors state that navigation leaves you on the main road; you need to look to the left about 50 meters beforehand to see the sign. The dirt road can be bumpy but is passable with a standard car. You can drive down to the coast, but it is essential to slow down in the last few meters to avoid getting stuck in the sand.

Gebekum is a registered nature park with fossil dune protection area status. This means that the area is not a picnic or camping site. Visitors emphasize that it needs to be protected and is actually a sensitive ecosystem where even stepping should be avoided. Comments written in foreign languages mention that inspections are carried out in the area and those who act contrary to the rules face fines. We recommend confirming current rules with local authorities before your visit.

There are no facilities in the area: no showers, toilets, buffets, or shade. There are also no trees to provide shade. The litter problem is the most common complaint from visitors; please bring a trash bag with you and leave the area cleaner than you found it.

Gebekum's most striking visual feature is its 7-kilometer continuous sandy strip. In photos taken at sunrise or sunset, the ridges of the Datça Peninsula and the blue tones of the Aegean merge in the background. Visitors speak of the unique texture of this coast, composed of 1.5 million-year-old sand grains; it offers an interesting backdrop for close-up photography. If you are looking for a secluded beach photo away from the crowds, it is recommended to come early in the morning.

There are no food and beverage outlets at Gebekum itself. You need to procure all your needs in advance. The closest options are in Karaincir village and Datça center. Datça is a gastronomic stop known for its olive oil dishes, fresh seafood, and local tangerine products; if you plan to spend the whole day at Gebekum, it is most logical to buy ready-made food from Datça and bring it with you.

There are no accommodation facilities around Gebekum. The closest accommodation options are in Datça center and Karaincir. Datça offers a wide range of options, from boutique guesthouses to small hotels. Although the area is theoretically accessible for caravanners, we recommend researching the legality of long-term stays due to its protected area status.

Since Gebekum lacks facilities and activity infrastructure, a half-day visit is usually sufficient. There is not much to do other than swimming, walking, and taking photos. If you include it in a Datça itinerary, you can plan it as a 2-4 hour stop in the morning or afternoon.
