Kızılbük and Hayıtbük Bays

The best time to visit Kızılbük and Hayıtbük bays is between late May and early October. June and September offer a golden mean in terms of both sea temperature and crowd levels; Hayıtbük can be packed during July-August. Kızılbük, however, remains relatively calmer throughout the summer. In windy weather, these south-facing bays of the Datça peninsula can be affected by waves; assess the conditions on site before entering the sea.

The most common way to reach Datça is by using a minibus or ferry via Marmaris. Ferry services are also available from Bodrum. Public transport from Datça center to Hayıtbük and Kızılbük bays is quite limited; therefore, a rental car or taxi is the most practical option. It would be useful to ask local shopkeepers if dolmuş services circulating the bays from Datça center operate during the summer season.

In both bays, the coastline where the pine forest meets the sea offers powerful shots, especially in the morning light. In wide-angle photographs taken from Kızılbük's stony shore, the depth of the turquoise water is clearly felt. In Hayıtbük, during hours with less boat traffic, photographs taken from the water towards the shore can be quite impressive. At sunset, points facing west in both bays are valuable.

There are a few beach restaurants and cafeterias along the Hayıtbük coast. Visitors say the service is fast and the food is delicious; however, they also note that prices are high. If you are budget-conscious, eating in Datça center and going to the bay only for the sea will be more economical. Small restaurants in Datça center offer a good selection of fresh fish and Aegean mezes.

In Hayıtbük, a large part of the coast is covered with sun lounger areas belonging to businesses; the free public area is quite limited. Some visitors state that a minimum spend is required to enter the sun lounger area and that this amount is high. If you bring your own equipment, you will not encounter this situation. Since parking may be charged, it is advisable to carry change with you. Due to the stony ground, sea shoes are definitely recommended.

A single day is sufficient to see only Kızılbük and Hayıtbük bays; since the two bays are close to each other, you can easily visit both on the same day. If you want to add other beauties of the Datça Peninsula (Palamutbükü, Old Datça, ancient city of Knidos), planning at least 2-3 nights of accommodation will provide a much more enjoyable trip.

There are boutique guesthouses and small hotels around Hayıtbük bay. Staying in Datça center and visiting the bays for a day trip is also a common preference; this way, you can find more options and more affordable prices. It is recommended to make reservations in advance during the summer season.

Entrance to the bays themselves is free. The main expenses arise from sun loungers, food and drink, and parking fees at beach businesses. Visitor comments indicate that soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are highly priced. If you prepare and bring your own food and drinks, you can significantly control your budget. Shopping in Datça center and going to the bay prepared is the most economical option.
