Samsun Coastal Road

Although the Coastal Road can be visited all year round, the most enjoyable period is between late May and early September. During these months, air temperatures are suitable for swimming, and outdoor activities and cafes along the coast operate at full capacity. July and August weekends, especially the Atakum section, get very crowded. If you want a quieter experience, you can choose weekday mornings or the May-June period. In autumn, the foggy and dramatic weather of the Black Sea adds a distinct atmosphere to the coast; it's a beautiful time for a walk.

It is possible to reach the Coastal Road from Samsun city center within walking distance. Municipal buses operate along the coast on the İlkadım, Canik, and Atakum routes. Lines directly connecting to Atakum beach depart from different points of the city. If you are coming by car, you already use this axis when entering Samsun via the Black Sea Coastal Road. There are paid and free parking areas along the coast, but they are highly occupied on summer weekends.

If you are visiting Samsun for the first time, including the Coastal Road in your city tour is a logical choice. You can start from the İlkadım section, see the Atatürk Monument and Bandırma Ferry Museum, then walk or rent a bicycle along the coast towards Atakum. In Atakum, you can take a break at Mert Beach, relax in the cafes overlooking the sea, and then take a bus back to the city center. This route takes approximately half a day and allows you to see both the historical and modern faces of Samsun.

There is a wide range of dining options along the Coastal Road. Restaurants and cafes overlooking the sea are concentrated in the Atakum section. Among the local delicacies of Samsun, Samsun pide stands out; its cheese and minced meat varieties have become a symbol of the city. Fish restaurants along the coast are also a good choice. For budget-friendly options, kiosks and street vendors near the coastal parks offer a good alternative.

The best photographic light along the Coastal Road is captured during sunset hours; the sun setting over the northern horizon of the Black Sea gives the coast a golden hue. The open area around Atakum pier is suitable for panoramic shots. In the morning hours, the fog and gray tones of the Black Sea offer more dramatic frames. Parks and green areas located along the coast also provide a natural backdrop for family photos with children.

The Coastal Road itself is a half-day activity. If you want to explore Samsun generally, 2 days are sufficient. On the first day, you can cover central points such as the Coastal Road, Bandırma Ferry Museum, and Atatürk Monument. On the second day, you can plan a day trip to Amisos Hill, Amazon Village, or surrounding districts. For those who want to add natural spots like Şahinkaya Canyon to their itinerary, 3 days provide a more relaxed pace.

In summer, sea conditions in the Black Sea can change suddenly; it's important to check the wave and current situation of the day before swimming. Since sun shade is limited along the coast, don't forget to bring sunscreen and water. Finding parking becomes difficult during peak seasons, so prefer public transport if possible. Drive carefully, keeping in mind that pedestrians are also present on the bicycle path.
