Samsun Zoo

Samsun Zoo, opened in 2005, is known as the largest zoo in the Black Sea Region. The park, which houses approximately 200 animals of 45 different species on a 22-decare area, is located side by side with Sevgi Park in the İlkadım district.

In recent years, plans for the zoo's relocation have come to the agenda; this situation occasionally negatively affects the area's activity. Confirming the current status before your visit will prevent an unnecessary journey.

The most suitable time to visit the zoo is during the spring and autumn months. In these seasons, the weather is neither too hot nor too cold; animals are also more active and observable.

In summer, especially at noon, the temperature rises considerably. Planning summer visits between 09:00-11:00 or in the late afternoon will bring you and the animals together in a more active environment. In winter, keep in mind that some animals may be moved to indoor sections.

The zoo is located on Fuar Street, close to Samsun city center. It is possible to reach it from any point in the city by municipal buses and minibuses heading towards İlkadım.

Those coming by private car can easily arrive by following Fuar Street. Since it is in the same area as Sevgi Park, you can search for Sevgi Park or Samsun Zoo in navigation applications.

The zoo, with its 22-decare area, is suitable for a visit of approximately 1-2 hours. If you combine it with the adjacent Sevgi Park, you can easily create a half-day excursion plan.

For those coming with children, planning a 2-hour period would be more realistic, as they will spend more time in the animal sections.

In the zoo, the eagle and wild animal sections stand out as the most photographed areas. Since animals are more active in the morning, it becomes easier to capture more dynamic shots.

A wide-angle or medium telephoto lens helps you photograph animals behind cages with a cleaner background. To prevent light from reflecting off the cage wires, try approaching the cage slightly from the side, not at a right angle.

As the relocation process of the zoo is ongoing, it is recommended to get up-to-date information from the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality or the official cultural portal before your visit. The area may be partially or completely closed from time to time.

It is not allowed to bring food from outside to feed the animals; this is important for both the health of the animals and visitor safety. If you are coming with children, remind them not to stand too close to the cages.

There are various cafes and buffets around Sevgi Park, right next to the zoo. For a more comprehensive dining experience, you can head to Samsun city center, especially to the restaurants and fish eateries along the coast.

Among Samsun's local delicacies, Samsun pide and anchovies stand out. Taking a break at a pide restaurant in the city center after your visit can be a good option.
