Monument of Honor

The Monument of Honor is located in Atatürk Park in Samsun's İlkadım district and is one of the city's most recognized symbols. Representing Mustafa Kemal's arrival in Samsun on May 19, 1919, and the beginning of the War of Independence, this monument was created in 1931 by Austrian sculptor Heinrich Krippel. Costing 5,500 dollars at the time, the work stands out with its figure of Atatürk on a rearing horse atop a large pedestal.

The statue, without its pedestal, is 4.75 meters high, reaching 8.85 meters with the pedestal. With its proximity to Cumhuriyet Square, the park is also at the center of the city's social life. The vast majority of visitors to Samsun make sure to see this monument.
