The best time to visit Ayvacık is between May and September. During these months, the water level of the dam lakes is high, the forests are lush green, and the waterfalls flow abundantly. Hiking routes are also most accessible during this period.

Autumn, especially October, is a good option for those who want to take photos when the forest cover turns orange and yellow. In winter, roads can sometimes become difficult; those planning to come in this season should closely follow the weather forecast.

Ayvacık is approximately 50–60 km from Samsun city center. It is possible to reach the district by road, turning off at the Çarşamba entrance. Coming by private car is both the fastest and most flexible option; a car provides significant convenience considering the distances between waterfall and lake points within the region.

For those preferring public transport, it is necessary to confirm whether there are regular services from Samsun bus station to Ayvacık before traveling. The Odak Samsun excursion tours organized by Samsun Metropolitan Municipality sometimes cover the region; the municipality's website can be followed for these tours.

For a one-day visit, you can follow this order: Start at Kikinin Waterfall, then move on to Yeşilpınar and Çağlayan Waterfalls. In the afternoon, relax on the shore of Suat Uğurlu or Hasan Uğurlu Dam Lake; arrange a boat tour if available. If time permits during the day, stop by Kirazlık Island and visit one of the historical wooden mosques.

Those who wish to stay overnight can dedicate the second day to a more leisurely nature walk. The forested structure of the region allows for enjoyable explorations even without a specific route plan.

Ayvacık and its surroundings offer typical tastes of Black Sea cuisine. Cornbread, pan-fried anchovies, black cabbage soup, and local cheeses are among the frequently encountered delicacies in the region. Small restaurants and village coffee houses in the district center offer homemade meals.

Fresh fish can also be found at facilities along the dam lake. One should not come with expectations of large restaurants; the region offers a calm and local-scale dining environment.

Ayvacık's strongest photography spots are the shores of the dam lakes and the waterfalls. Hasan Uğurlu and Suat Uğurlu Dam Lakes offer impressive shots, especially in the morning with fog and reflection effects. The waterfalls are at their best during high water periods; bringing a tripod is recommended for long exposure attempts.

In autumn, the trees coloring along the forest roads also create valuable photography points. Kirazlık Island, with its location in the middle of the lake, offers an unusual shooting area.

Since most of the region consists of forested and mountainous terrain, it is important to wear appropriate shoes and dress according to the weather. Waterfall paths can sometimes be slippery; careful progress is required.

Due to the small scale of the district center, it is safer to meet needs such as fuel, groceries, and ATMs from Samsun or Çarşamba on the way. Phone signal can be weak in some forested areas; downloading route information in advance for offline use is a practical precaution.
