Boraboy Lake Nature Park

The best time to visit Boraboy Lake is between May and July. During these months, the forests are at their most vibrant green, picnic and camping areas are bustling, and the clear lake water invites photography. In mid-summer (August), as holiday crowds increase, choosing weekdays offers a calmer experience.

The autumn season, especially October, offers a completely different beauty with its forests adorned in yellow and red leaves; this period is truly golden for photographers. In winter, the snow-covered lake view is impressive, but some facilities may be closed, and road conditions can become difficult; visitors planning a trip during this period should closely monitor the weather.

The easiest way to reach Boraboy Lake is by private car. From Amasya city center, you need to take the Amasya–Erzincan highway towards Taşova for approximately 50–55 minutes. As you approach Taşova district center, follow the Boraboy Lake signs; from there, an asphalt road will guide you to the lake's entrance.

Those preferring public transport can take minibuses from Amasya bus terminal to Taşova. For the distance from Taşova district center to the lake's entrance, a taxi or a pre-arranged transfer may be necessary; we recommend researching this in advance. Since an entrance fee is charged per vehicle at the park entrance, remember to pay at the ticket booth.

Boraboy Lake is one of those rare natural areas where every corner offers a great photo opportunity. From high points on the northern shore of the lake, the entire surface of the water can be captured in a single frame; the mist layer that forms in the early morning hours adds a mystical atmosphere to photos taken from this angle.

In autumn, when the yellow-orange-red tones of the surrounding forest are photographed with their reflections on the lake, extraordinary results are achieved. During winter visits, the reflections of snow-laden trees by the lake create a unique landscape. Those wishing to do drone photography are advised to inquire about the nature park rules in advance.

There is a cafeteria within the nature park, offering hot drinks, light snacks, and some local delicacies. Those planning a long hike or camping trip are advised to bring sufficient provisions with them, as market or restaurant options around the park are quite limited.

For a more comprehensive dining experience, you need to head to Taşova district center or Amasya city center. Prominent flavors of Amasya cuisine include çebiç (lamb meat), Amasya apple products, and local pastries; to try these tastes, it is best to visit restaurants in the city center.

Boraboy Lake Nature Park offers both tent camping areas and bungalow houses. Tent pitches for two or four people can be rented in the camping area; bungalows are a good option for those seeking more comfortable accommodation. Due to high occupancy during summer and holiday periods, advance reservation is strongly recommended.

For those preferring accommodation outside the nature park, there are various hotel and guesthouse options in Taşova district center and Amasya city center. Amasya city center also has many places to visit with its historical texture, so staying here and visiting both the city and Boraboy on a day trip makes for a practical plan.

Remember that an entrance fee is charged per vehicle for the nature park; as current rates can change, it is useful to call the relevant forest management or park administration to confirm before your visit. For those planning to camp, tent pitches and bungalow fees are calculated separately.

To preserve the natural balance within the park, it is very important to comply with fire rules and take your trash with you. It is recommended to wear appropriate sports shoes or boots on hiking trails; some paths can be uneven. In winter, always check the weather and road conditions before setting off, as the weather in the region can change suddenly due to the high altitude.

Depart from Amasya early in the morning and upon arrival at Boraboy Lake, first complete the hiking trail around the lake. The paths within the forest will take you to different angles of the lake, offering plenty of photo opportunities. Take a break at the cafeteria or picnic area around noon.

In the afternoon, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing by the lake or at the camping area. If you are making a day trip, departing before noon will allow you to stop in Taşova district center on your way back for dinner at a local restaurant. On your return to Amasya city center, you can also add the historical Pontus rock tombs and Amasya Castle to your itinerary.
