Haliliye Madrasah

Haliliye Madrasah is one of the early Ottoman period structures located on Cumhuriyet Street in Gümüş Town, Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. It was built between 816-818 (1413-1415) by Hacı Halil Pasha, the Beylerbeyi of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed. Also known as Hacı Halil Pasha Madrasah, the structure serves as a tangible proof of the Ottoman educational tradition in the region.

The madrasah has a closed courtyard and a four-iwan plan extending in a north-south direction. This type of plan is frequently encountered in early Ottoman madrasahs and prioritizes functionality. The walls of the building are constructed from rubble stone, and this choice of material both harmonizes with the natural texture of the region and provides durability to the structure for centuries.

Haliliye Madrasah is located in Gümüş Town, Gümüşhacıköy district, approximately 72 kilometers from Amasya city center. For those coming by private car, it is sufficient to follow the highway from Amasya to Gümüşhacıköy; once you reach Gümüş Town, you can easily find the madrasah on Cumhuriyet Street.

Those wishing to come by public transport can take regular buses from Amasya bus terminal to Gümüşhacıköy. From Gümüşhacıköy, it is possible to reach Gümüş Town by minibus or taxi. It is recommended to confirm minibus schedules with local residents or the district municipality before your visit.

Haliliye Madrasah can be the focal point of a one-day cultural tour covering the Gümüşhacıköy district. The district also features historical structures such as Köprülü Mehmet Pasha Mosque, Darphane Mosque, Caravanserai and Bedestan, Clock Tower, and Maden Bath. You can combine these structures into a single route to create a half-day or full-day history tour.

If you also plan to visit Amasya city center, you can start your Gümüşhacıköy tour early in the morning and return to Amasya in the afternoon to explore the city's famous rock tombs, the Yeşilırmak riverbank, and Gök Madrasah in the evening.
