2-Day Marmara-Aegean Transition Route from Bursa to Balıkesir

A two-day journey awaits you, stretching from the green heart of Marmara to the cool waters of the Aegean. On this route, we will start with Bursa's technological and natural wonders, and continue with Balıkesir's national struggle spirit and ancient traces. We have a total of 11 stops; each promises moments full of both information and enjoyment.

GUHEM Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center

Our first stop in Bursa is the GUHEM Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center, located in Osmangazi. This is Turkey's first comprehensive center in space and aviation, with 154 interactive exhibits. It offers many different experiences, from a rocket elevator to flight simulations, VR cinema to robotic coding areas. It is a place where you should allocate at least two hours, especially for families with children. The space innovation laboratory is also quite interesting.

Tofaş Bursa Museum of Anatolian Cars

After GUHEM, we move on to the Tofaş Bursa Museum of Anatolian Cars, located in Bursa's Yıldırım district. This museum, brought to life by the restoration of an old silk factory, exhibits Turkey's automotive history in a wide range, from a 2600-year-old wheel to today's Tofaş models. Free entry and the Fayton Cafe in its courtyard make this a pleasant stopover.

Çakırağa Bath

Continuing our route, we visit the Çakırağa Bath, built by Çakır Ağa during the reign of Sultan Murad II. This 15th-century structure, located between Tahtakale and the Hanlar Region, is still actively serving. The bath, which preserves its historical texture, carries the traces of the past with its separate sections for men and women. If you want to experience a traditional Turkish bath, this is the right address.

Softaboğan Waterfall

We move away from the city center and head towards nature. Softaboğan Waterfall, located on the slopes of Uludağ, within the borders of Osmangazi district, is a peaceful spot surrounded by pine forests, gushing with meltwater in spring and summer. Located in the Dombay Çukuru Valley, the waterfall is perfect for a calm nature walk and fresh air.

Saitabat Waterfall

After Softaboğan, we move to Saitabat Waterfall in Kestel district without going too far. This natural beauty, formed by meltwater from Uludağ, offers a cool valley atmosphere at an altitude of 630 meters. Surrounded by canyons and dense forest cover, the waterfall is ideal for picnicking and spending time in nature. The approximately 130-year history of Saitabat village adds a distinct character to this place.

After completing our first day in Bursa, we set off for Balıkesir. After an approximately 2-hour journey, we start our second day with our stops in Balıkesir city center.

Balıkesir Kuva-yi Milliye Museum

Our first stop in Balıkesir is the Kuva-yi Milliye Museum, located in the city center. This historical mansion, dating back to 1840, was a place where important decisions were made during the National Struggle period. On the ground floor of the museum, documents and artifacts related to the War of Independence are exhibited, while on the upper floor, archaeological finds from ancient cities such as Kyzikos and Antandros are displayed. This museum, which attracts visitors with its historical texture, is free of charge.

Balıkesir Clock Tower

Right next to the Kuva-yi Milliye Museum, rising within the Municipal Park, the Balıkesir Clock Tower is one of the city's iconic symbols. Known as 'Koca Saat' (Big Clock) among the public, this 20-meter white cut stone structure, built in the 19th century, draws attention with its cylindrical architecture similar to the Galata Tower. It is ideal for a short break and photo opportunity in the city center.

Seyit Onbaşı Monument

We move a little away from Balıkesir city center and go to Kocaseyit Village, affiliated with Havran district. Here, there is a complex consisting of a monumental tomb, exhibition hall, and museum, established on the lands where Seyit Onbaşı, the hero of the Çanakkale War, was born and buried. At this poignant stop of our national history, you will both pay your respects and get to know the hero's story more closely in a 4-decare area.

Eybek Tower

Near Kocaseyit Village, at an altitude of 920 meters, Eybek Tower was built in 1980 to monitor forest fires. With its dominant position over the Havran plain, it is a great stop for nature travelers and scenery enthusiasts. This tower, which you can reach with a short walk through pine forests, offers a particularly beautiful view at sunset.

Ören

Heading towards the Aegean coast, we arrive at the town of Ören, affiliated with Burhaniye. Ören, which stands out with its fine sandy and blue flag beaches on the coast of Edremit Bay, is only 4 km from the district center. You can swim in the sea at different points such as the teachers' residences area and the pier area, and spend time in the green resting areas. This place attracts attention with both its sea pleasure and its ancient port history.

Adramytteion Ancient City

Our last stop in Ören is the Ancient City of Adramytteion, located right within the town. This ancient settlement, founded by the Pelasgians, is one of the most important historical sites of Edremit Bay with its thousands of years of history. The city, full of ancient port structures and Byzantine period ruins, also impresses its visitors with the view it offers from Ören Tepe.

This two-day route, starting from Bursa and ending in Balıkesir, promises you a journey full of history and nature, blended with both the green of Marmara and the blue of the Aegean. Although public transportation options are available in both cities, I recommend using a private vehicle for a more comfortable trip.
