Kab Mosque (Hacı Ali Mosque) — Adıyaman

Kab Mosque is an important religious structure that has stood for centuries in Adıyaman city center and contributes to the city's historical identity. The mosque, built by Hoca Ali, also gave its name to the neighborhood where it is located; over time, it also became known as Hacı Ali Mosque. The inscription on its minaret, dated H.1084, or 1673 AD, reveals how deep-rooted the structure's history is. Although some sources mention the date 1768, academic studies have shown this date to be erroneous.

The mosque underwent extensive renovation in 1923 and has thus been able to continue its function to this day. Kab Mosque, considered alongside Ulu Mosque and Eskisaray Mosque among the historical religious structures in Adıyaman city center, remains a unique example reflecting the region's architectural heritage.

The most comfortable periods to visit Adıyaman are April-May and September-October. Since temperatures can rise quite high in the city during summer months, planning your visit in the early morning or late afternoon will offer a more pleasant experience. For visiting Kab Mosque, hours outside of prayer times can be preferred; during these hours, you can examine the interior of the mosque more comfortably and take photos. Keep in mind that it might be crowded during Friday prayer times.

Kab Mosque is located on Atatürk Street in Adıyaman city center. After reaching the city center from any point in the city by dolmuş or public bus, the mosque is within walking distance. You can reach the city center from Adıyaman bus terminal by dolmuş or taxi in approximately 10–15 minutes. For those coming by car, it is possible to find parking on the street; however, considering the city center traffic, it may be advisable to prefer walking.

You can combine Kab Mosque with other historical structures in Adıyaman city center to create a short but rich city tour. Adıyaman Grand Mosque, Eskisaray Mosque, and Yenipınar Mosque are natural parts of this route. All these structures are located close to each other and can be visited on foot. With a walking tour starting early in the morning, you can complete the historical fabric of the city center before noon, and then visit the Adıyaman Museum in the afternoon. For more distant points like Mount Nemrut, a separate day should be planned.

Kab Mosque is a structure that will attract photography enthusiasts with its historical minaret and traditional mosque architecture. The inscription section of the minaret is valuable for close-up shots as it serves as a historical document. Facade photos in the morning light can yield very impressive results. The historical street texture of Hocaömer Neighborhood around the mosque also creates a beautiful background for the frame. With a wide-angle lens, it is possible to capture both the entire mosque and its surroundings in a single shot.

Adıyaman cuisine reflects the rich flavors of Southeastern Anatolia. There are many local restaurants near Kab Mosque in the city center. Adıyaman kebab, liver wrap (ciğer sarması), and katmer are among the prominent tastes of the region. Before starting your morning tour, you can have a breakfast full of local cheeses and olives at one of the breakfast halls in the center. At lunchtime, the city's artisan restaurants offer home-cooked meals.

Kab Mosque is an active place of worship; during your visit, you are expected to maintain a quiet and respectful demeanor. It is best to avoid entering during prayer times or to wait for the prayer to finish. Female visitors are expected to cover their heads, and men should remove their shoes when entering the mosque. When taking photos, be careful not to frame people who are praying. It is advisable to choose conservative clothing.
