Kab Mosque (Hacı Ali Mosque) — Adıyaman

Adıyaman, being a city with a hot climate in Southeastern Anatolia, the most suitable periods for visiting are between April–June and September–November. As temperatures can rise quite high in summer, it will be much more enjoyable to visit the walking points in the city center early in the morning or in the late afternoon.

Those who wish to visit Kab Mosque outside of prayer times can prefer the hours before noon prayer. It should be noted that the mosque may be crowded during Friday prayer times.

To reach Adıyaman, you can use Adıyaman Airport; shuttle and taxi options are available from the airport to the city center. For those arriving by road, Adıyaman has bus connections with neighboring cities such as Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Malatya.

Kab Mosque is located in Adıyaman city center on Kapcami Neighborhood, 9 Eylül Street. It is possible to reach it on foot after arriving in the city center by shared taxi from the central bus stops or the bus terminal. For those arriving by car, following the Atatürk Street route is sufficient.

Kab Mosque is one of the most original architectural examples among Adıyaman's historical structures. The building is constructed from finely cut stone and its exterior facade presents a simple and unadorned appearance. The most striking element is the baghdadi plastered wooden dome covering the mosque; this feature is recorded as the only example not found in other mosques in the region.

In the northern part of the mosque, there is a covered last congregation area with two mihrabs. This arrangement reveals one of the regional interpretations of Ottoman mosque architecture. The structure was renovated in 1923; it was also affected by the earthquake of February 6, 2023.

If you visit Kab Mosque, you can create a short walking route by combining it with other historical structures in the city center. Adıyaman Grand Mosque (1506–1515, Dulkadiroğulları period), Old Palace Mosque, and Yeni Pınar Mosque are also noteworthy structures located in the city center.

With this walking route starting in the morning, you can comfortably visit all structures within half a day. On the other hand, to experience the true magic of Adıyaman, we recommend preparing a program that combines the city center with iconic points of the region such as Mount Nemrut and Cendere Bridge.

After visiting Kab Mosque, you can stop by restaurants in the city center to discover the flavors of Adıyaman cuisine. Adıyaman is one of the important centers of çiğ köfte culture, and you can easily find this delicacy on the streets.

In addition, kaburga dolması (stuffed ribs), beyran soup, and katmer are among the prominent local tastes. Small artisan restaurants in the bazaar area of the city center offer homemade-style dishes.

Kab Mosque is an active place of worship. It is important to adopt a quiet and respectful attitude during the visit. Female visitors are expected to cover their heads, and both genders should prefer clothing that covers shoulders and knees; it is advisable to come prepared with a shawl as one may not be available at the mosque.

Since the structure was damaged in the earthquake of February 6, 2023, it is recommended to confirm its current status from local sources before your visit. As the area around the mosque has narrow street structures, caution should be exercised when approaching by car.

The cut stone exterior and minaret of Kab Mosque offer beautiful lighting conditions, especially during morning and afternoon hours. It would be appropriate to try a wide-angle position from the opposite sidewalk to frame the general view of the mosque.
