Dikmen Plateau

The most productive period to visit Dikmen Plateau is late spring and early summer, extending from mid-May to late July. During this period, the plateau is covered with forest roses, and the green cover is at its most vibrant. August also sees heavy visitor traffic; visiting on weekdays offers a calmer experience. In autumn, October, when the forest turns yellow-orange, has a special appeal for those who want to take photographs. In winter months, snowfall can make roads difficult; always check road conditions before going in this season.

The most practical way to reach the plateau is by private car. From Hendek town center, head towards Karadere; then you will arrive at the plateau via Dikmen Village and Çiğdem Village. The total distance from Hendek is approximately 36 km, and the journey takes 1.5 hours. Since there are narrow and winding village roads in the last part of the route, preferring a high-clearance vehicle or an SUV will make the journey easier.

For those coming from Sakarya city center, reaching Hendek first and then following the Karadere route is the most logical path. Public transportation options are quite limited; as village minibuses operate irregularly, renting a car or joining tour organizations is a more reliable alternative.

There is no permanent restaurant or cafe on Dikmen Plateau itself. The most common preference for plateau visits is to bring your own food and drinks; picnic areas are very suitable for this. There are various restaurants and cafes in Hendek town center; eating in Hendek or buying provisions before heading to the plateau is a practical solution. Although houses offering village breakfast in the region sometimes open their doors to visitors, it is necessary to confirm this with local sources beforehand.

The observation hill in the upper part of the plateau is the most prominent photography spot, with its dominant position over the surroundings. From here, it is possible to capture the panoramic view spreading over Sakarya's forest cover. In spring, when the forest roses bloom, the slopes take on a pink-white appearance; wide-angle shots taken during this period yield very impressive results. Different perspectives can also be obtained along the hiking routes between Çiğdem and Turnalık Plateaus. The effect of light on the forest during sunrise and sunset hours offers a special opportunity for photography.

You can create a day-long route centered around Dikmen Plateau, also covering neighboring plateaus. Arrive at the plateau in the morning, first climb to the observation hill and enjoy the view. Then follow the hiking route towards Turnalık Plateau; this route passes through the forest. In the afternoon, head to Çiğdem Plateau; this is easily accessible due to its proximity to Dikmen. You can also add Beşoluk Plateau to your route during the day. Plan your route considering walking distances and your physical condition; it is also possible to partially follow the entire route by car.

Since Dikmen Plateau is located in a windy area, even in summer, a light windbreaker or jacket should be with you. Check the weather forecast before setting off; sudden weather changes are common at these altitudes. There is no permanent medical facility or market on the plateau; obtain your basic necessities from Hendek. To protect the natural area, take your picnic waste back with you. In winter and early spring, roads can be snowy and icy; preferring a four-wheel-drive vehicle during these periods increases safety.

Dikmen Plateau alone can be explored with a half-day visit. For those planning hikes to surrounding plateaus (Beşoluk, Turnalık, Çiğdem), a full day would be a more suitable duration. In a weekend program combined with other natural beauties of Sakarya, allocating one day to Dikmen Plateau will allow you to explore the region efficiently. It is also possible to camp overnight on the plateau for those who wish; in this case, planning at least two days is recommended.
