Keremali Tomb

Keremali Tomb is located on the 1543-meter summit of the mountain of the same name, in Keremali Plateau, Akyazı district of Sakarya. This point on the western extension of the Köroğlu Mountains is one of the most striking places in the region both geographically and culturally. The tomb houses the alleged graves of two saints named Kerem and Ali; it also offers a simple but meaningful visiting area consisting of a small structure.

The region has a special place in that it combines faith tourism with nature tourism. Visiting the tomb and then relaxing at Çamlıca Pond has become a frequently preferred route among those visiting Sakarya.

The most suitable period to visit Keremali Plateau is between May and October. During this period, the plateau roads are open to vehicle traffic and weather conditions facilitate the visit. In summer, thanks to the 1543-meter altitude, the region remains quite cool; it offers an attractive option for those who want to escape the July-August heat.

In early autumn, which lasts until mid-September, the plateau takes on a colorful appearance and creates a suitable atmosphere for photography. In winter, road access may be closed; be sure to check road conditions before planning a visit during this period.

The most practical way to reach Keremali Tomb is by private car. After passing from Sakarya city center to Akyazı district, you need to follow the mountain road in the direction of Keremali Plateau. Since the road is sometimes narrow and winding, vehicles with high ground clearance or 4x4 vehicles may be preferred.

Public transportation options are quite limited. After reaching Akyazı by minibus or bus, it may be necessary to rent a private car or get support from local guides to go up to the plateau.

The summit of Keremali Mountain offers a wide panorama covering the Sakarya plain and surrounding mountains. In the morning hours, when fog clouds cover the valleys, the view from the summit becomes extremely impressive.

The Prayer Stone and natural rock formations immediately around the tomb are also interesting subjects for photography. Çamlıca Pond offers a beautiful backdrop for reflection photography; shots taken with the pine forest around the pond can yield very successful results.

There is no permanent restaurant or cafe around Keremali Plateau and the tomb. It would be a good idea to get food and drinks from Akyazı town center or prepare for a picnic before your visit. Picnic areas are available around Çamlıca Pond; the area is frequently used for this purpose.

In the local restaurants in Akyazı town center, you can find homemade dishes specific to Sakarya cuisine.

The weather can change suddenly in areas close to the summit; even on a sunny day, cold wind and fog can appear unexpectedly. Don't forget to bring a raincoat or a windproof outer garment.

There are times when the plateau road closes in winter; before your visit, inquire about road conditions from Akyazı Municipality or local sources. Since the surroundings of the tomb preserve their natural structure, visitors must be environmentally conscious and take their picnic waste with them.

1–2 hours is sufficient to just visit the tomb and explore the surroundings. If you plan to have a picnic at Çamlıca Pond, go for a nature walk, or enjoy the view, a half-day program would be more suitable.
