Avşar Hamamı, Isparta'nın Gelendost ilçesinde taş duvarlarla inşa edilmiş, soyunmalık, ılıklık ve kubbeli sıcaklık bölümüyle geleneksel Osmanlı hamam mimarisini yansıtan tarihi yapıdır.
Avsar Hamami is a stone masonry structure built on flat terrain in Gelendost district. It was built as a single hammam; separate sections were not created for men and women, but rather planned as a single space. At the entrance there is a rectangular dressing room with original foundations, but the upper part was covered with concrete over time. On the north side there are four dressing cabins made of brick; these are recent additions.
From the dressing room, an arched doorway leads to the warm room section. This section is a rectangular space extending in the east-west direction, covered with a barrel vault. The most striking part is the hot room section: a transverse rectangular main space with a central dome, covered on both sides with barrel vaults, and additionally featuring two square-plan alcove cells. The southeast corner of the hot room was later divided off for use as a massage area.
The structure is a simple yet legible example of Isparta's traditional hammam architecture. It is not as well-known as the large hammams in the city center, so you won't expect crowds during your visit. It can be considered a brief stop for architecture enthusiasts and those traveling in the Gelendost area.
Guide's Note
About Avsar Hamami
Avsar Hamami is a single hammam structure built with stone masonry. It follows the classical hammam scheme with dressing room, warm room, and hot room. The dome in the hot room section and the barrel vaults on both sides are among the structure's most distinctive features. Over time the dressing room section was renovated and its upper part covered with concrete; the original fabric is most clearly seen in the warm room and hot room sections.
When to Visit
Since the structure is located in an open area, it can be hot during midday hours in summer. Spring and autumn are a more suitable time period both for weather conditions and for combining with other stops in the region (Lake Egirdir, Ertokus Caravanserai, etc.).
How to Get There
The drive from Isparta center to Gelendost takes approximately half an hour. After reaching Gelendost center, head toward the Karaagas neighborhood to reach the hammam. Getting there with your own vehicle makes it easier to also visit other historical sites in the area.
How Much Time to Allocate
Avsar Hamami is a small-scale structure, with a visit averaging 45 minutes. It doesn't make up a full day's route on its own; it can be combined with Abdulgaffar Mosque, Elma Gardens Bike Park, or Ertokus Caravanserai in the Gelendost area to plan a half-day tour.
Nearby Stops
In the Gelendost area there are several points near the hammam: Abdulgaffar Mosque approximately 4 km to the southeast, Elma Gardens Bike Park at a similar distance. A bit further away, around 16 km, are Lake Egirdir, Gelendost Ertokus Han, and Ertokus Caravanserai. When planning a day trip, it makes sense to combine these points with the hammam.
Photography Suggestions
The dome and vaulted ceiling in the hot room section are the most visually striking areas for interior photography. The arched entrance gate on the east facade also offers a suitable angle for exterior shots.
Things to Note
The structure has been restored but does not fully preserve its original character; the dressing room section has been renovated with modern materials. There is no clear information about official operating hours or entrance fees in the area; it would be helpful to contact the local cultural office or municipality before visiting.
