Hoyran Kaya Mezarları, Isparta'nın Yalvaç ilçesinde Hoyran Gölü kıyısındaki kayalıklara oyulmuş üç antik mezardır. Kayaya oyulmuş basamaklarla ulaşılan yapılardan biri, geometrik desenli alınlığı nedeniyle bey mezarı olarak düşünülmektedir. Ücretsiz ziyaret edilebilen alan, araçla mezarların yakınına kadar ulaşılabilir.
Hoyran Kaya Mezarlari is located approximately 25 kilometers west of Yalvac, on cliffs descending steeply from the east toward Hoyran Lake, the northern extension of Egirdir Lake. One of the three tombs is particularly noteworthy: due to its craftsmanship and geometric patterns on its pediment, it is thought to be a bey's tomb. The tombs are set within a square frame 5.50 meters wide and high; the tomb chamber inside is 3.50 meters wide, with its ceiling rising to 3.10 meters in the shape of a pointed barrel vault.
Ancient stone steps carved into the rock lead you up to the tombs. When you sit on the bench in front, the view unfolds before you: the blue of Hoyran Lake, the play of light on the water's surface, the surrounding silence. Visitors note that while vehicles can reach the tombs, the area is not adequately protected and the surroundings are marked with excavation traces. Nevertheless, the view is frequently praised; in one comment, someone jokingly remarked that "even their tombs have a view."
Among similar rock tombs in Anatolia, this area holds an important place, yet it is not yet a crowded tourism destination. The light falling over the lake in the hours near sunset makes the time spent in front of the tombs special.
Guide's Note
When to Visit
Spring and autumn are the most suitable periods in terms of both temperature and the lake's clear appearance. During summer months, midday heat can be tiring on rocky terrain; early morning hours or times near sunset offer more comfortable visits. At sunset, the light falling on the lake creates a distinctive view when seen from in front of the tombs.
How to Get There
From Yalvac town center, head toward Asagi Tiltar by vehicle. The road goes to the point where the tombs are located, but the final section is narrow and may be path-like. Public transportation is not frequent on this route; your own vehicle or a taxi from Yalvac is the most practical option. Asking locals for directions will make your journey easier.
How Much Time to Spend
30-45 minutes is sufficient to explore the tombs themselves and enjoy the lake view. If you want to take photographs or sit on the bench and absorb the scenery, this time can extend to an hour. You can plan a half-day trip by combining it with other stops in Yalvac (Antiocheia Ancient City, Yalvac Museum).
Route Suggestion
Starting from Yalvac town center, first visit Antiocheia Ancient City, then Yalvac Museum, and make Hoyran Kaya Mezarlari your final stop of the day. Arriving at the tombs as sunset approaches allows you to avoid the heat and see the lake in its best light.
Things to Note
The area does not officially have museum or archaeological site status. Visitor comments indicate that the surroundings are marked with excavation traces and the area is not adequately protected. Wear sturdy shoes when walking on rocky ground, and be careful near the edges of the tomb chambers. Since there is no staff or information panel, it is helpful to read basic information about the site before visiting.
Photography Points
Photos taken from the stone bench in front of the tomb capture both the ancient structure and Hoyran Lake in the background. Photographs taken looking up from the stone steps also clearly show the tomb's scale and square frame. The light reflections on the lake at sunset add a special tone to photographs.
About the Region
Hoyran Lake is known as the northern extension of Egirdir Lake; the region has been considered among sacred areas throughout history. The rock tombs stand out among similar examples in Anatolia for their plain craftsmanship. One of the three tombs is interpreted as a bey's tomb due to its geometric patterned pediment. The region, not yet experiencing heavy tourism pressure, is a suitable choice for those seeking a quiet visit.
