Üryan Baba Tomb

Üryan Baba was a dervish who lived in Anatolia in the 13th century, counted among the Abdalan-ı Rum, or Anatolian Saints. The word "Üryan" in his name carries a deep meaning in Alevism and the heterodox Sufi tradition; it symbolizes liberation from worldly attachments. This saint, referred to as Dede Baba in the Bektashi tradition, is considered an important representative of the Kalenderi dervishes. His tomb gave its name to the village for centuries; although the village is now called Yazıdere, it is still known as Üryan Baba Village among the locals.
