Hoşkadem Mosque, located in the Sivrihisar district center, is a simple example of early Ottoman architecture from the 15th century, featuring a square plan and dome; notable are the brickwork on the window lintels and the controversial sarcophagus in its garden.
Hoşkadem Mosque is one of two historical structures standing side-by-side with Hazinedar Mosque in the Sivrihisar district center. Built by Hacı Hoşkadem in the 15th century, the mosque is a simple example of early Ottoman religious architecture with its single-space, square-plan, and dome-covered structure. The brickwork of the period can be observed on the window lintels; the interior is unpretentious, but this simplicity gives the structure a distinct gravitas.
In the mosque's garden, there is a sarcophagus whose owner is not definitively known. Discussions among art historians continue regarding its construction date and patron; some sources mention the year 1448 and a different patron's name. Visitors note that history can be felt from the outside, the garden is well-maintained, and visiting it together with the adjacent Hazinedar Mosque makes for a more meaningful experience. Hoşkadem may sometimes be closed; it is necessary to check on-site whether it is open.

Guide's Note
About Hoşkadem Mosque
Standing almost shoulder-to-shoulder with Hazinedar Mosque in the Sivrihisar district center, Hoşkadem Mosque has stood since the 15th century. There are differing opinions among art historians regarding the exact construction date and patron of the structure, which was built by Hacı Hoşkadem; some sources mention the year 1448. Its square-plan, single-space, and dome-covered structure reflects the early Ottoman religious architectural tradition.
The interior is simple. The main points of interest are the brickwork on the window lintels and the sarcophagus in the garden, whose owner is not definitively known. The landscaping is well-maintained; the historical corner formed by the two mosques side-by-side is one of the most unique spots to visit when exploring Sivrihisar.
When to Visit?
The mosque is kept open according to prayer times. Visitors note that entry to the interior may be restricted during prayer times; visiting between morning prayer and noon or after afternoon prayer allows for a more comfortable visit.
Hoşkadem is also observed to be closed from time to time. The adjacent Hazinedar Mosque is more regularly open; with its ablution fountain and free WC, it's a practical stop. If you want to see both, go before noon; the light illuminates the garden better.
How to Get There?
From Eskişehir city center to Sivrihisar, it's approximately 75 km via the D-200 highway. About an hour by car. It is also possible to reach Sivrihisar by bus; there are regular services from Eskişehir bus terminal.
Once you enter the district center, it's on Hoş Kadem Street, right next to Hazinedar Mosque. Finding parking within walking distance is usually not difficult.
Sivrihisar Route Suggestion
Hoşkadem Mosque is a natural part of a route exploring Sivrihisar's historical fabric. Start with Hazinedar Mosque; 30-45 minutes is sufficient for both structures. From there, you can walk to Sivrihisar Grand Mosque; the district's historical bazaar is also on the same route.
Sivrihisar can be planned as a day trip from Eskişehir. If you leave before noon, visiting the mosques and bazaar area and returning to Eskişehir in the evening makes for a comfortable schedule.
Photo Spots
The best exterior shots of Hoşkadem Mosque come from wide-angle frames taken together with Hazinedar Mosque. The side-by-side presence of the two structures conveys Sivrihisar's historical atmosphere in a single shot.
The brickwork on the window lintels makes for a good detail in close-up shots. The sarcophagus in the garden is also an interesting compositional point. When the midday sun hits the garden directly, shadows become harsh; morning or afternoon light yields softer results.
Things to Know Before Visiting
The mosque is an active place of worship. Shoes must be removed and silence maintained when entering. Visitor entry may be restricted during prayer times.
Hoşkadem is sometimes observed to be closed. If the adjacent Hazinedar Mosque is open, you can start there. Care must be taken with the architectural elements of the structure, especially the mihrab and minbar.
What to Eat Nearby?
Sivrihisar is one of Eskişehir's gastronomically interesting districts. There are small restaurants and breakfast spots in the district center. Sivrihisar pastry (rei) and local dough-based dishes are among the prominent flavors of the region.
If you are planning a long trip, it makes sense to have lunch in the district; when you return to Eskişehir in the evening, the city center offers a much wider range of options.
