Anadolu University Aviation Park (Vecihi Hürkuş Aviation Park)

Opened by Anadolu University in 1998, this park is one of Turkey's rare open-air aviation exhibition areas. It is located in the Tepebaşı district, opposite the university campus. Over time, it was named Vecihi Hürkuş Aviation Park; this is a reference to Vecihi Hürkuş, a pioneer of Turkish aviation. The annual visitor count is stated to be around 20,000, but visitors say the park remains quite calm compared to this figure.

The park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and open from 09:00–17:00 on other days. Outdoor visits can be tiring in the summer months; shaded areas are limited. Entering as soon as the gates open at 09:00 or choosing the autumn-spring period provides a more comfortable visit. If you are coming with children, weekdays are calmer, weekends are a bit more crowded.

The Eskişehir tram network passes right in front of the park; this is the most practical transportation. Free parking is available for those arriving by car. Address: Yenibağlar, Uludağ Sk. The aircraft in the open area, especially military models, offer interesting details for framing. The engines and technical parts placed next to them are a separate subject for close-ups. The cockpit section in the indoor museum is narrow, so a wide-angle lens is useful. The light is better before noon for good results.

The most frequently repeated topic in visitor comments is the maintenance condition of the aircraft. Some of the exhibited vehicles are moss-covered and starting to deteriorate; this is a subject of criticism in terms of aesthetics and preservation. The park area itself is kept clean, the problem is mainly with the aircraft. If you are interested in aviation history, the visit is still meaningful even if you go knowing this. Since admission is free, the risk is low.

There is little shade in the open area; bring water and a hat in the summer months. There is a small cafe at the entrance.

Half an hour is sufficient for most visitors. If you have a special interest in aircraft and aviation technology, it can extend up to an hour, including engine details and the indoor museum. If you are coming with small children, allow a little more time for the cockpit experience.
