TÜLOMSAŞ Museum – Devrim and Karakurt

TÜLOMSAŞ Museum, located within the TÜRASAŞ Regional Directorate campus in Eskişehir, is a small but historically valuable industrial museum. The collection focuses on two artifacts: Devrim, produced in 1961 and holding the distinction of being Turkey's first domestic car, and Karakurt, a domestically designed steam locomotive. The story of Devrim has become a symbol of the period when Turkey tried to stand on its own feet in the automotive industry; this unfinished project leaves a deep impression on visitors.

The museum consists of two sections: a garden and an enclosed building. In the garden, the Devrim car, Karakurt, and other locomotives are exhibited outdoors; this area can be visited free of charge. The enclosed section contains information panels documenting production processes and various collection pieces.

The museum is closed on Mondays. It is open on weekdays from 10:00–17:00 and on weekends from 09:00–17:00. Since the exhibition area is small, it does not get crowded; you can visit comfortably at any time. The garden section is outdoors, so it offers a more pleasant experience in spring and autumn. The museum is located in Eskişehir city center on Basın Şehitleri Street. Its proximity to Porsuk River and Eskişehir Train Station makes it easy to include in a city tour itinerary. After reaching the Tepebaşı area by tram and city bus lines, you can reach the museum with a short walk. For those coming by car, it is not difficult to find parking on the street and in side streets.

You can tour the entire museum in 15 to 30 minutes. Visitors report that they can see the vehicles and locomotives in the garden in a few minutes. Even with the enclosed section, it won't take more than half an hour. Therefore, it makes sense to combine the museum with other stops in Eskişehir; the Porsuk River bank or Odunpazarı Historical District can be easily added.

The Devrim car is the most photographed spot in the museum. Since it is exhibited outdoors in the garden, it is possible to take clear and shadow-free shots in daylight. The Karakurt locomotive and other vehicles in the garden also offer interesting details for those who want to take industrial photographs. Photography is allowed inside the museum.

The garden section is completely free; since the Devrim car and locomotives are located in this area, it is possible to see the main exhibition without paying any fee. An entrance fee of 80 TL is charged for the enclosed building. There are also opinions among visitors that the fee is high considering its small scale. The museum is closed on Mondays; plan your visit accordingly. Since the exhibition area is small, movement space may be limited for large groups. Visitors state that the venue needs to be developed and the exhibition area expanded; it would be good to adjust your expectations accordingly. You can go near the vehicles in the garden, but be careful not to touch them.
