Doğan Aslan Mosque

Doğan Aslan Mosque is a small-scale but architecturally interesting Anatolian Seljuk structure from the mid-13th century. The octagonal dome covering the square-plan mosque volume is a solution not seen in other structures in the region. The portico in front of it is planned in a transverse rectangular shape and covered with a cut-stone vault.

The patron of the structure, Doğan Aslan Bey, was the standard-bearer of Ghiyath al-Din Kaykhusraw II. The fact that a commander from the palace entourage, not the sultan, left such a structure in a village is thought-provoking in terms of the cultural spread in Anatolian geography of the period. The inscription clearly documents the construction date as 1247.

From Eskişehir city center, it's approximately 75 km to Sivrihisar via the E90 highway. From Sivrihisar district center to Mülk Village, it's a 15-20 minute drive. You can search for 'Mülkköy Köyü İç Yolu, Sivrihisar' or directly 'Doğan Aslan Mescidi' on navigation.

Public transport connections are quite limited. Coming to Sivrihisar by bus and then renting a car or taking a taxi is the most realistic option. A day trip by car from Eskişehir can cover Sivrihisar district center, Doğan Aslan Mosque, and other historical structures in the vicinity on a single route.

Spring and autumn months are the most suitable periods. Village roads can become difficult in winter, especially after snow and rain. Spending time outdoors in the midday heat during summer can be tiring; it's advisable to prefer morning hours.

There is no official information regarding opening hours. It is safest to visit during daylight hours. Obtaining information in advance from the Sivrihisar District Governorship or Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism will prevent surprises.

When you come to Mülk Village, don't limit yourself to just the mosque. The Vizier Alemşah Tomb is also right nearby; these two structures together take about 1 hour. In Sivrihisar district center, the Grand Mosque (Ulu Camii) and the historical bazaar area are also among the places to visit. If you are starting from Eskişehir, adding Sivrihisar to your itinerary makes the day more productive.

From the outside, the most interesting angle is the corner where the octagonal dome is reflected on the facade. The vault detail of the portico provides an interesting texture in close-up shots. For a shot encompassing the entire mosque, you need to step back a bit from the village road. Morning light illuminates the western facade better.

The mosque is registered as an active place of worship; you may need to remove your shoes when entering. There are no facilities, cafes, or toilets within the village. It would be advisable to bring water and snacks with you.

There is no official data on opening hours. To ensure your visit, it is best to contact the Sivrihisar District Governorship or the village headman in advance, in case the door is closed.

Admission to the mosque is free. If you are traveling from Eskişehir by car, there are no additional expenses other than fuel and car rental costs, if any. Simple restaurants are available in Sivrihisar district center; it is advisable to return to the district for lunch.
