Sivrihisar Clock Tower is a historical structure built in 1899 in the Sivrihisar district of Eskişehir, sitting on a high rock mass and known for its clocks on four facades.
The Clock Tower, mentioned in every source describing the Sivrihisar district of Eskişehir, was built in 1899 at the initiative of the district governor of the time, Mahmut Bey. Its placement on a high rock mass dominating the town center allows the clocks on its four sides to be read from almost every corner of Sivrihisar. Its mechanism, wound once a week and striking with a brass hammer, gives the structure a character found nowhere else.
The tower stands in the middle of the historical bazaar and traditional mansion fabric; it is like a reference point carrying the memory of the city. Since there are also important historical sites nearby, such as the Ancient City of Pessinus, the clock tower is often the first stop on day trips to Sivrihisar. There is also a small cafe next to the structure.

About Sivrihisar Clock Tower
The Sivrihisar Clock Tower was built in 1899 by Mahmut Bey, the district governor of the time. Constructed on a high rock mass dominating the town center, the tower features a clock on each of its four facades. This positioning allows the structure to be seen from almost every point of Sivrihisar. Its mechanism, wound once a week and operating with a brass hammer, is the most striking feature of the tower. There is also a small cafe in its immediate vicinity.
When to Visit?
Sivrihisar has an Inner Anatolian climate, meaning summers are hot and dry, while winters are cold. The most comfortable period to visit the tower is between April–June and September–October. During these months, the weather is mild, making it much more enjoyable to walk around the district and take photos. In mid-summer, the stone ground gets quite hot during midday; morning or late afternoon visits are preferable.
How to Get There?
The distance from Eskişehir city center to Sivrihisar is approximately 75 km. By bus: Regular minibus and bus services run from Eskişehir bus terminal to Sivrihisar. By private car: You can follow the Eskişehir–Ankara highway and use the Sivrihisar exit; the journey takes approximately 1 hour. Sivrihisar Travel Route
If you are coming to Sivrihisar for a day trip, setting the Clock Tower as your starting point is a logical choice. From here, you can walk to the historical bazaar and traditional Sivrihisar mansions. The Ancient City of Pessinus, located approximately 23 km away by private car, can also be included in the same day's program; it is reached in about 25 minutes from the Ankara–Eskişehir road. This makes it possible to see both the urban historical fabric and the ancient heritage in a single day.
Photo Spots
The Clock Tower, with its stance on a high rock mass, creates a strong contrast with the traditional structures around it. The north facade of the tower is the most preferred angle, as it frames the historical texture of Sivrihisar in the background. In the afternoon, as the sun moves west, the stone surface receives a warm light; these hours are also suitable for long exposure experiments. It is possible to capture the entire tower and its surroundings in the same frame with a wide-angle lens.
What to Eat, Where to Eat?
Sivrihisar is a district known for its Sivrihisar bread; this bread, baked in a wood-fired oven, is one of the most famous delicacies of the region. In the small restaurants in the town center, you can find simple but satisfying dishes of Inner Anatolian cuisine. The small cafe right next to the Clock Tower is quite convenient for a short break.
Things to Note Before Visiting
Since the tower is located on a high rock, care must be taken on the surrounding stairs and steps; the ground can be slippery. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In winter months, after rainfall, stone surfaces become wet and slippery. For up-to-date information on visiting hours and interior access, it is advisable to call Sivrihisar Municipality in advance.
