Victory Museum

The Victory Museum can be visited all year round; however, the August 26-30 Victory Day week is the perfect time to experience the museum in the most meaningful way. During this period, commemoration ceremonies, marches, and cultural events are organized throughout Afyonkarahisar; special programs are also held at the museum. As the city's climate is quite mild in spring and autumn, it is an ideal time to combine a museum visit with other historical sites in Afyonkarahisar. We recommend going early in the morning during the summer months, keeping in mind that it can be crowded.

Since the Victory Museum is located right in the center of Afyonkarahisar, it can be easily reached from any point in the city. It is extremely easy to find the museum, which is located on Milli Birlik Street, opposite the Victory Monument and next to the Government House.

From Afyonkarahisar Bus Terminal, you can reach the center by minibus or taxi in approximately 10-15 minutes. For those arriving by train, dolmuş services are available from the train station to the center. If you are coming with your own car, you can look for parking around Anıtpark and near the Government House. The museum is in a central enough location to be easily found on foot.

The Victory Museum was established in 1985 within the Başkomutan Historical National Park Directorate. The history of the building dates back much further, serving as the Afyon Municipality until the 1930s. During the War of Independence, it was used as the Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters and the Western Front Command Headquarters.

Exhibitions are displayed in 11 of the building's total of 17 rooms. The exhibitions include weapons and equipment from the war period, topographical maps, historical photographs, and various documents. Following extensive restoration work completed in 2024, the museum reopened to visitors on August 26, 2024. With the renewed exhibition layout, the chronological narrative of the Great Offensive is presented with a much stronger visual language.

The Victory Museum and its surroundings offer powerful photo opportunities with their historical atmosphere. The facade of the museum, with its historic structure adorned with Turkish flags, is an impressive subject for photography in itself. The city center is home to many butchers and eateries famous for Afyon sucuk (spicy sausage) and pastırma (cured beef).
