A 1-day tour route in Aydin city center, extending from Ottoman mosques to ancient city ruins. This route encompasses Ramazan Pasa Mosque, Suleyman Bey Mosque, Cavus Bridge, Üveys Pasa Mosque, Aydin Archaeology Museum, and Tralleis Ancient City, offering an ideal cultural discovery for couples in autumn.
Aydin city center is a treasure waiting to be discovered for couples interested in history. By setting aside a day, you can visit mosques that have survived from the Ottoman period to the present day, historic bridges, and ancient city ruins within walking distance. A peaceful discovery awaits you in the mild autumn air, far from crowds.
Ramazan Pasa Mosque
Located in the heart of Aydin's bazaar, Ramazan Pasa Mosque is a wonderful place to start the day. Originally built in 1595, it was rebuilt in 1901 following the great earthquake of 1899. While its exterior appears simple, baroque decorations and colorful glasswork inside will surprise you. It also has special significance as it hosted the first resistance meetings of the War of Independence.
Suleyman Bey Mosque
Just a few steps from Ramazan Pasa Mosque, right beside the train station, you will encounter Suleyman Bey Mosque. Built by Suleyman Bey in 1683, this cut stone structure is a fine example of classical Ottoman style with its single dome and simple mihrab. It is thought to be the work of one of Mimar Sinan's apprentices. Don't forget to see the historic fountain in the courtyard.
Cavus Bridge
This bridge from the Ottoman period rises over the Tabakhane Stream. The most striking feature of the structure, dating back to the early 18th century, is the ox head relief on its left arch. Built with rubble stone, brick, and spolia stones from the Hellenistic period, it reveals the multi-layered history of the region.
Üveys Pasa Mosque
Üveys Pasa Mosque, Aydin's oldest Ottoman mosque, was built by Üveys Pasa, Governor-General of Egypt, in 1568-1569. With its square plan and single dome architecture, it has a simple beauty. In this historic place, also mentioned in Evliya Celebi's Book of Travels, you can even see bullet marks left from the War of Independence.
Aydin Archaeology Museum
The Aydin Archaeology Museum, which you can reach with a short journey from the city center, reveals the region's rich ancient past. Statues, sarcophagi, coins, and ethnographic artifacts from ancient cities such as Tralleis, Magnesia, and Alabanda are displayed here. Its spacious garden is also used as an open-air exhibition area.
Tralleis Ancient City
Located on the southern slope of the Chestnut Mountains, Tralleis is very close to Aydin center. Spanning from the 3rd century BC to the Byzantine period, this ancient city stands out especially with its gymnasium ruins known as the 'Three Eyes'. Remains of a Roman bath and theater can also be seen here. Although the area is currently closed to visitors due to active excavation work, even observing it from the outside is like touching history.
This 1-day route in Aydin center allows you to discover historic structures while offering a non-tiring travel experience with nearby stops within walking distance. You can choose local restaurants in the city center for lunch, and opt for more modern options for dinner. Access to all stops is convenient by public transportation or short taxi rides.
