Ağrı — Travel Guide
Ağrı, one of the highest provinces in Eastern Anatolia, is a city steeped in legends, situated approximately 1,640 meters above sea level. Home to Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest mountain, the city is extremely attractive…
When to Visit Ağrı?
Ağrı has a very harsh climate due to its high altitude. Winters are long and snowy, while summers are short but sunny. The ideal period to visit the city is between June and September. During this period, daytime temperatures rise to 20-25 degrees Celsius, and mountain roads and natural beauties become most accessible.
If you plan to climb Mount Ararat or hike in Diyadin Canyon, July and August are the most suitable months. However, even in these months, night temperatures can be cool, so it is recommended to bring an extra layer of clothing.
In winter, the city center and Doğubayazıt are covered in snow; roads may occasionally close. If you are interested in winter sports and snow photography, the December-February period can offer an interesting experience; however, it is important to keep your travel plans flexible.
