Samsun Coasts

The best period to visit Samsun's coasts is from May to July. During these months, the weather is milder, the sea is relatively calm, and walking along the coast is enjoyable. In August, holiday crowds significantly increase; if you want a calmer experience, prefer weekday mornings. In autumn, the city becomes more tranquil; while good for coastal walks, the cool and windy nature of the Black Sea becomes more pronounced during this period. In winter, the coast becomes deserted, but the stormy Black Sea view creates a completely different atmosphere.

It takes approximately 20–25 minutes from Samsun Airport to Atakum Beach. You can reach the coast from the city center by municipal buses; buses on the Atakum line stop along the coast. For those coming by car, parking areas are available along the coastline, but they can be full on summer weekends. Taxis and app-based transportation options can also be preferred within the city.

While walking along the coastline, you can stop by the Atatürk Monument and the National Struggle Park. A little further inland, the Bandırma Ferry Museum is an interesting stop that tells the story of Atatürk's landing in Samsun. Amisos Hill is a good alternative for those who want to see both the city and sea views together. Çiftlik Street, near the coast, offers a lively option for shopping and dining.

The cafes and restaurants lined up along the coast offer both local delicacies and daily snacks. Fresh fish options such as bluefish and horse mackerel, especially anchovy, an indispensable part of Black Sea cuisine, stand out in coastal restaurants. Tea gardens are also popular for taking a break during a coastal walk. Samsun pide, unique to Samsun, is one of the city's most well-known delicacies; you can find it in pide salons in the city center.

The colors of the Black Sea at sunset are one of the most photographed moments on the coast. Visitors particularly emphasize this view. The area around the Atatürk Monument and the walking path extending along the coast also offer beautiful frames for photos. In the morning, the combination of fog and sea creates atmospheric shots unique to the Black Sea.

The Black Sea has a cooler and wavier structure compared to the Aegean and Mediterranean. Be careful when swimming; currents and waves can strengthen unexpectedly. During holidays and long weekends, coastal crowds increase significantly, making it difficult to find parking and comfortable space during these periods. Since coastal enjoyment may be limited on windy days, it is advisable to check the weather forecast before going.

Accommodation options in Samsun are largely concentrated in the city center and Atakum district. For those who want to stay close to the coast, hotels in Atakum are a good choice; reaching the coast from city center hotels also doesn't take too long. A wide range of options is available, from boutique hotels to chain hotels, depending on the budget.
