Çiğdem Plateau

The most suitable period for Çiğdem Plateau is between June and September. During these months, the weather is cool, the forest is green, and camping conditions are favorable. In spring, especially in May, the region is covered with rhododendrons and takes on a colorful appearance. In winter, travel may become difficult due to snow or ice on the road; it is advisable to check road conditions in advance during this period.

To reach Çiğdem Plateau, come to Hendek district from Sakarya city center or from Istanbul. From Hendek, continue towards Karadere, passing Dikmen Village and then Çiğdem Village; access to the plateau is provided from the village. The distance between Dokurcun and the plateau is approximately 18 km, and the driving time between Hendek and Dikmen Plateau is approximately 1.5 hours.

Since the road includes narrow and winding sections, it is advisable to prefer a high-traction or 4x4 vehicle. Public transport connections are quite limited; a private car or car rental is the most practical option.

Çiğdem Plateau is a satisfying place even for a day trip picnic or a short nature walk. It is possible to set off before noon and return in the evening; in this case, planning a 3-5 hour visit makes sense. If you are considering camping, a 1 or 2-night stay makes you feel the peace of the plateau and the forest atmosphere much better.

After obtaining the necessary provisions from Hendek town center, take the Karadere route. As you pass Dikmen Village, appreciate the scenery around the village; Dikmen Plateau is also on this route, so it is possible to see both plateaus on the same day. Upon arriving at Çiğdem Plateau, you can picnic or camp in the clearings within the forest. On your return, you can have a meal at local restaurants in Hendek town center.

Çiğdem Plateau's strongest photographic potential is hidden in the forest passages and clearings. The dense canopy formed by pine, beech, and fir trees offers impressive shots, especially when the morning light filters through the forest. In spring, when the rhododendrons bloom, the area transforms into a separate shooting location for macro and wide-angle photography. You can also include the silhouette of Keremali Mountain in your frame from the plateau clearings.

There are no markets, gas stations, or health facilities around the plateau; you need to meet all your needs from Hendek town center. Be careful about the risk of forest fires when lighting a campfire and comply with local government rules. Avoid night driving as the road is narrow and winding. GSM signal can be weak on the plateau; be prepared for emergencies. Take your trash back with you to leave nature clean.

There are no food and beverage facilities on Çiğdem Plateau itself. All materials for picnic and camping meals must be prepared in advance. There are local restaurants and bakeries in Hendek town center; you can have breakfast in Hendek or get ready-made food before setting off. Forest products (such as mushrooms, blueberries) grown in the region can be found seasonally; care must be taken in identifying the products to be collected.
