Hippou Kome Ancient City

Hippou Kome is a city whose name is found in epigraphic sources on the historical settlement map of the ancient Lycian region. This area, thought to correspond to today's Çukurasar and İnhisar localities, is located on a hill known as İt Asarı, near Çöğmen village in Dalaman district of Muğla. With its history dating back to the Hellenistic Period, Hippou Kome continues to be a valuable site for researchers to understand the ancient settlement history of the region.

Hippou Kome is mentioned in ancient and epigraphic sources as a settlement unit included in the historical geography of Lycia. This Hellenistic Period settlement also draws attention due to its location in the transition zone between Lycia and Caria. Hippou Kome is an archaeological site without an organized visitor infrastructure. 1 to 2 hours is sufficient to explore the ruins and examine the surroundings. You can combine the site with other historical and natural points around Dalaman to create a day trip itinerary.

There is no organized visitor center, toilet, or cafeteria in the area. Shaded areas on the hill are extremely limited; a hat and sunscreen should definitely be with you in summer. It is recommended to bring enough water and light snacks. The terrain is rugged, making the visit difficult for families with children and those with mobility limitations. It is a legal obligation not to damage the ruins in the area and not to carry any artifacts.

The hilltop location of İt Asarı Locality offers a wide view opening towards the surrounding Dalaman plain and the distant mountainous silhouette. This landscape, where ancient ruins are intertwined with the surrounding nature, is suitable for capturing good light conditions, especially in the morning and late afternoon.
