Champ de Mars

Champ de Mars is a large and green park area located in the heart of Paris, directly beneath the Eiffel Tower. Situated on the Left Bank, this venue offers one of the city's most iconic views, making it a preferred destination for relaxation, walks, and, of course, photography.

Champ de Mars has beauty in all seasons, but spring and summer are the most ideal times due to blooming flowers and warmer weather. It is quite enjoyable to walk or picnic in the park between May and September.

We recommend going early, especially between 7-9 AM. During these hours, the park is calmer, less crowded, and the Eiffel Tower photo is shared with fewer people. A beautiful atmosphere also forms about an hour before sunset.

Reaching Champ de Mars is quite easy. If you are using the RER C line, get off directly at the Champ de Mars – Tour Eiffel station. For the metro, you can get off at Bir-Hakeim station on Metro Line 6, or Trocadéro station on Metro Line 9. You can walk to the park from both stations.

One of the biggest advantages of Champ de Mars is its suitability for picnics. Sitting in the park with classic French delicacies like croissants, cheese, ham, and wine, while watching the Eiffel Tower, is one of the most romantic moments in Paris. There are also fast food options sold in the park, but if you want a local experience, it is advisable to buy ingredients from nearby grocery stores.

There are also cafes and restaurants in the vicinity. If you prefer not to sit inside the park, there are comfortable and affordable options nearby on Rue de l'École Militaire. Sitting at a cafe with a terrace and spending the afternoon watching the Eiffel Tower is also very popular.

Champ de Mars is a vast area where you can take great photos of the Eiffel Tower from every angle. Especially the middle and front open areas of the park provide professional shots with the tower perfectly centered. You will get the best results if you position yourself with the morning sun at your back.

Photos taken at sunset are also very beautiful; especially after the Eiffel Tower lights up. There are also spots where you can capture the tower's view through the park's trees, which creates a natural frame for more artistic shots.

When visiting Champ de Mars, seeing the Eiffel Tower is unmissable. Walking from the park to the tower's entrance takes only a few minutes. Afterwards, you can cross the Pont d'Iéna bridge to reach the Trocadéro Gardens; from here, you get the most iconic perspective of the Eiffel Tower.

Pont Alexandre III, Champs-Élysées, and Arc de Triomphe are also nearby. If you have more time, visiting the Musée de l'Homme or taking a stroll along the Seine river is also a great option. You can see all these places by dedicating one day to the Eiffel Tower area.

Entry to Champ de Mars park itself is completely free; there is no entrance fee. If you need to buy food for a picnic, you can find inexpensive options at nearby markets. A croissant costs 2-3 Euros, while cheese and ham vary per kilo but are generally affordable.

If you also want to go up the Eiffel Tower, taking the elevator ranges from 17-27 Euros. A coffee while sitting in the park is around 3-5 Euros. In total, you can have a very economical day; just for the park and a picnic, 30-50 Euros would be sufficient.

Champ de Mars is a very crowded place, especially during tourist season. If you want a quiet and relaxed experience, prefer to go early in the morning or during the winter months. Keep an eye on your bags and valuables in the park; unfortunately, petty thefts can occur.

Check the weather and dress appropriately. It can be very hot in summer and cold in winter. Make sure your shoes are comfortable because you will be walking a lot in the park. Also, if you are picnicking, it might be hard to find trash cans in the park; it's better to carry your trash with you and dispose of it in appropriate places.

You can spend hours at Champ de Mars, but usually 2-3 hours are sufficient. Picnicking while watching the Eiffel Tower, taking a short walk, and snapping photos can be completed within this time.

If you plan to go up the Eiffel Tower as well, allocate an additional 2-3 hours. You might wait in line, spend time exploring, and then descend. If you want to see both the park and the tower, a half-day plan will be enough.
