Devil's Bridge

The most suitable period to visit Devil's Bridge is between April and June. During these months, the flow rate of the Bendimahi Stream increases with snowmelt; the strong current passing under the bridge creates a much more striking visual and photographic scene. In mid-summer, the stream's flow rate may decrease, reducing the dramatic effect of the bridge. In winter months, access to the region can sometimes be difficult; snowfall is common in Van and Muradiye.

From Van city center, travel approximately 80 km on the D300 highway to Muradiye. Reaching by car is the most practical option; the bridge is located very close to Muradiye town center. There are regular minibus services from Van to Muradiye; after arriving in Muradiye, the bridge can be reached by taxi or a short walk. Using navigation via the bridge's Google Maps coordinates makes it easier to reach the correct spot.

Devil's Bridge alone is a 30-60 minute stop. This time is sufficient to cross the bridge, descend to the riverbank, take photos, and spend some time. Since Muradiye Waterfall and Muradiye Thermal Springs can also be visited on the same day in the Muradiye district, it is recommended to allocate between half a day and a full day for the region.

If you are starting from Van, you can plan your Muradiye route as follows: First, see the Muradiye Waterfall, then proceed to Devil's Bridge, and for the rest of the day, relax at the Muradiye Thermal Springs. On your way back, you can follow the sunset along the shore of Lake Van. This route allows you to fit both natural and historical sites into a single day.

The best photo of the bridge is taken by descending to the riverbank and framing the bridge from below. When viewed from above the bridge, the riverbed and rocks, which give a sense of depth, form a beautiful composition. In spring months, the high-flowing river hitting the bridge's piers creates a dramatic image. At midday, the light directly hits the bridge, making the texture of the stone clear; the hours before sunset, known as the golden hour, are ideal for warm tones.

The bridge is only 3 meters wide and its railings are quite low; families with children, in particular, should be careful near the bridge edges. The path descending under the bridge can be rocky and sometimes wet, so wear sturdy shoes. Since visitor comments mention a lack of maintenance, some parts of the structure may be worn; avoid carrying heavy loads on the bridge or large groups crossing at the same time.

There are local restaurants in Muradiye town center; Van breakfast, a staple of Van cuisine, herbal cheese, and kavut can easily be found in this region. Tea gardens and small cafes near the waterfall are suitable for relaxing after a visit. For a more comprehensive dining experience, it is recommended to return to Van city center.

Devil's Bridge was built in the 19th century and extends in an east-west direction over the Bendimahi Stream. It is approximately 15.5 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 17-18 meters high. The bridge's piers are directly set into the rock; this feature not only increases its structural durability but also makes it visually interesting. The Bendimahi Stream is an important water source flowing into Lake Van and also holds ecological value as one of the breeding grounds for the pearl mullet.
