Sızır Waterfall

The period when the waterfall flows most abundantly is between April and June. With the melting snow, the flow rate of the Göksu Stream peaks in these months, and the surrounding greenery is at its most vibrant. Towards the end of summer, the water volume may decrease, so expect a calmer flow during August-September visits. Visiting on weekdays can be preferable to avoid the heavy visitor traffic from Kayseri, Sivas, and Yozgat, especially on Sundays.

Those departing from Sivas city center follow the Kayseri-Sivas highway and turn towards Sızır from the Yeniçubuk area. The same road is used for those coming from Kayseri; the distance is approximately 100 km, and about 135 km from Sivas city center. The road connection is smooth, and access by car is easy. Upon reaching Sızır town, the vehicle is left in the parking area, and it's about a 150-meter walk to the waterfall.

1-2 hours are sufficient to see the waterfall, walk around it, and take photos. If you plan to have a picnic or eat at the facility, it would be more comfortable to allocate half a day. It is possible to go and return on a day trip from Sivas or Kayseri.

Recent visitor comments indicate that spring rains have damaged the inner bridge around the waterfall, and some walking points are closed. Only the stairs leading to the cafe seem intact; the waterfall flows abundantly, but full access inside may not be possible. Wooden stairs and stones can be slippery due to water vapor, so non-slip shoes should be preferred. Some comments also mention that the area is neglected in terms of litter and maintenance, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

At the facilities around the waterfall, grilled and pan-fried trout, and tea in a samovar are classic options. Some visitors mention that çiğ köfte (raw meatball) is served as a complimentary dish and found it delicious. However, there are also complaints about portion sizes; it has been noted that mixed grill included chicken wings instead of the expected red meat, and fish was served in half portions. It would be reasonable to clarify portions and prices when ordering. The picnic area upstairs is considered more suitable for sitting.

Wooden bridges and viewing terraces are suitable for taking photos with the waterfall in the background. Those who want to try long exposure from the terraces closest to the point where the water falls can bring a tripod. The greenery emerging in the middle of the steppe geography and the water cascading from the rocks also yield good results in wide-angle shots.

When visiting Sızır Waterfall, it is also possible to allocate time for the hiking trails within the Çat Forests. You can combine it with other natural areas around Gemerek to make your day more fulfilling. If you are coming from Kayseri or Sivas, a short stop in the district center on the way back completes the route.
