Maden Stream and Waterfall

Maden Stream can be visited in all seasons; spring and summer months are considered the most enjoyable times to visit as the stream flow is high and the surroundings are at their most vibrant. In summer, the area takes on a festive atmosphere, and especially on weekends, it experiences heavy crowds. Since many visitors come on Sundays, finding parking and a quiet spot can be difficult. Those who prefer weekdays or Saturday mornings find a much more peaceful environment. In autumn, the forest area changes color, creating a beautiful atmosphere.

Maden Stream is located within the borders of Kocaali district, Sakarya province. It is approximately 50-60 km away from Sakarya city center. By private car, you can use the D-100 highway or TEM motorway to head towards Kocaali, then follow the Maden Stream signs. Those who want to go by public transport can choose minibuses departing from Sakarya bus terminal to Kocaali; after getting off in Kocaali center, you need to reach the stream by taxi or rental car. Since some parts of the roads are dirt, high-clearance vehicles may be preferred. We recommend calling local transportation companies in advance for current schedules and routes.

After arriving by car and parking, you enter the walking trail that extends along the stream bed. This route, which takes about 1 kilometer, requires passing through low tunnels; tall visitors, in particular, should be prepared to bend down. After the tunnels, you reach the waterfall. Continuing from here, you arrive at the weir area; the stream widens here, making it possible to cross, and there are tea-drinking and seating areas. If you bring your picnic supplies, you can take a long break around the weir. The return is via the same route.

Around the stream, there are tea houses and small-scale refreshment points. Since the area is primarily a natural recreation spot, one should not expect extensive restaurant options. The vast majority of visitors bring their own picnic supplies; setting up a country table by the stream is one of the most enjoyable activities in this area. There are various cafes and restaurants in Kocaali district center; you can choose the district center for lunch.

The waterfall offers beautiful shots in the morning hours when the natural light is best. The rocky passages and tunnel entrances along the stream bed are also suitable for interesting compositions. In the weir area, as the stream surface widens, it is possible to take reflection photos. The surrounding lush wooded area creates a breathtaking backdrop, especially in spring. There are plenty of beautiful scenes for a wide-angle lens or phone camera; in the tunnels, light is low, so a flash or a good night mode might be useful.

The low tunnels on the walking trail can be a surprise, especially for families with children and tall visitors; be prepared to bend down to pass. Dirt roads can become muddy in rainy weather and dusty in dry weather; choose your vehicle and clothing accordingly. On Sundays, the area gets quite crowded, and parking can be difficult. It is important to keep a close eye on children as there may be slippery stones by the stream. Taking care of the cleanliness of the picnic area is of great importance for the preservation of this beautiful environment.

Entry to Maden Stream Waterfall is free. The area is open to visitors every day of the year. To reach the waterfall, a walking trail of approximately 1 km must be covered; the trail is not considered very difficult, but trekking shoes or sturdy sports shoes are recommended. There are recreation and picnic areas in the vicinity. The average visit duration is between 2-4 hours; this time can be extended if a break is taken in the weir area.
