The rampart walls, built in a rectangular form with cut and rubble stone, end on a steep slope on the southern facade of the castle, while the northern side opens to the city with a gentler incline.
Right at the entrance of the castle, a statue of Atatürk greets visitors; when illuminated at night, the statue and the castle together add a special meaning to the city's silhouette. The Mamluk and Seljuk influence is clearly felt in the structure; the Köşk Minaret and the muqarnas-vaulted crown gate are among the most prominent examples of these influences.
