Şebinkarahisar İstiklal Fountain in Giresun, Türkiye, is a free-standing 1927 victory monument in baldachin style, built by Mayor Hsn Bey to commemorate the War of Independence and the newly established Republic.
This fountain, standing in the middle of the town square, was actually designed as a victory monument. In 1927, the then Mayor Hsn Bey had it built to keep the memory of the War of Independence alive and to symbolize the newly established Republic. Its master was Sarı Mustafa from Torul. When it was first built, it was in front of the old municipality building; in 1985, it was moved to its current location, the town square.
Its architecture is in baldachin style: a water basin in the center, four columns around it, and an octagonal zinc roof above. The cylindrical body of the basin has cannon and bullet reliefs, and this section, tapering upwards, ends with a crescent and star motif. In the center of the roof is a small skylight lantern, and each facade has triangular pediments. A round pool was later added around it.
While most visitors to Şebinkarahisar come for the castle and caves, it's impossible not to notice this fountain when passing through the square. It's a small structure with heavy meaning. It shows what a district municipality considered important to monumentalize in the early years of the Republic.
