Summers in the Batman and Hasankeyf region are very hot, while winters are cold and snowy. Since the ascent to the castle is done by walking and there isn't much shade on the route, spring and autumn months are preferred. One visitor states that the view is more beautiful when visited in spring; there are also those who say that walking becomes challenging in the summer heat.
How to Get There
Hasankeyf is approximately 37 kilometers from Batman city center. It is possible to reach by public transport and private taxis. The descent from the airport to the city center takes 4 km, approximately 8 minutes. The road leading to the castle entrance is narrow and winding; at one point, vehicle traffic ends, and the remaining distance is completed on foot.
How Many Hours to Allocate
1.5-2 hours is sufficient for just the Inner Castle tour, but the walk between the parking lot and the entrance takes up a significant portion of this time. Some visitors state that climbing to the old settlement requires a total walk of 1.5-2 hours and that there is an uphill climb. If you add other points of Hasankeyf (new settlement, boat tour, caves), it makes sense to plan for half a day.

Leave your vehicle at the head of the valley and enter the walking path. Those who ascend through the four monumental gates on the east side reach the remains of the Grand Palace and the cave dwellings. To the south, you can descend to the Ulu Mosque and the cemetery area, and from the west gate, to the point overlooking the Tigris River. Some visitors state that the cave area, which is reached by boat tour on the return, can also be accessed by a 4x4 vehicle; this is an alternative for those who want to see the caves on the opposite bank.
Things to Consider
There is no vehicle access to the castle; after the parking lot, the entrance is reached by walking approximately 1-1.5 km. The path is winding and some sections require a slight stair climb. Those with small children state in comments that they struggled, and some even turned back halfway. In the summer heat, the walk becomes quite tiring; it is recommended to take plenty of water.
