Princes' Walkway

Stretching along the Yeşilırmak River in Amasya's Yüzevler area, the Princes' Walkway is one of the city's most beloved outdoor routes. In this ancient city, where Ottoman princes were raised, historic wooden houses, rock tombs, and bridges lining the river greet you with a different view at every step of the way.

With its smooth surface and wide walking path, this route appeals to visitors of all ages and is also one of the most comprehensive ways to experience Amasya's historical texture. Small bazaars, coffee houses, and historical structures along the way will slow you down, with a new discovery awaiting you around every corner.

The best time to visit the Princes' Walkway is during April-May and September-October. In spring, blooming trees and mild weather make the walk extremely enjoyable, while in autumn, leaves turning yellow-orange create a perfect backdrop for photography.

During summer months, early mornings or late afternoons should be preferred; midday temperatures can be quite oppressive. In winter, visitor density decreases, offering a calmer experience, but one should be prepared for the evening chill.

Undoubtedly, the most magical time of day is evening hours. The illuminations along the path and the reflections of historic houses on the Yeşilırmak create Amasya's most iconic visuals.

The Princes' Walkway is located approximately 2 km from Amasya city center, in the Yüzevler area, accessible via Elmasiye Street. You can also join the route by walking from the Yalıboyu Houses in the city center.

City minibuses regularly operate along the Elmasiye Street route. For those wishing to take a taxi, the central taxi stands are very convenient. Those arriving by car can use nearby parking areas; however, finding parking can be difficult during peak season.

The closest airport for reaching Amasya is Merzifon Airport. Bus services from Ankara and Istanbul also operate regularly.

For those who want to explore the route most efficiently, the following order is recommended: Start from the Yalıboyu Houses and walk along the river. Explore the bazaar streets extending to the Köprülü Pasha Mosque; the shops and side streets here have a distinct atmosphere.

Further along the walking path, you will see the silhouette of the Royal Rock Tombs on the opposite slope; have your camera ready at this point. After completing the route, you can visit the nearby Princes' Museum to explore the exhibition on the lives of Ottoman princes.

On your return in the evening, we recommend taking a break at the cafes and restaurants along the river to try Amasya's famous apple tea or local delicacies.

The Princes' Walkway is one of Amasya's most photographed routes. An iconic shot is obtained when the historic bridges over the Yeşilırmak are framed together with the Royal Rock Tombs rising in the background.

In the evening, the lights of the riverside mansions reflected on the Yeşilırmak offer a perfect opportunity for long-exposure photography. If you are using a tripod, don't miss the blue hour just after sunset.

The river-view observation terraces that open up along the way are also ideal spots for both resting and taking photos. To frame the rock tombs on the opposite slope, choose the south bank of the river.

There are many places around the Princes' Walkway and in Amasya city center where you can experience local flavors. You must try Amasya's famous apple and apple products — apple tea, apple candy, apple delight.

Small bakeries and nut shops greet you in the bazaar section along the way. For dinner, you can choose local dishes with traces of Black Sea cuisine at the riverside restaurants. Meat with bread (etli ekmek), mantı (dumplings), and fresh fish are also prominent delicacies in the region.

The surface of the Princes' Walkway is generally smooth and well-maintained; however, we recommend choosing comfortable walking shoes. Seating areas and fountains are available along the path.

During the peak tourist season (July-August), crowds may increase in the evening; those who prefer quieter times for photography can consider early weekday mornings.

Most of the surrounding museums and historical structures have separate entrance fees. For those planning to visit multiple museums, a Museum Card can be an advantageous option. The walking path itself is free and accessible at all hours.
