Bahçeköy Papaz Deresi Waterfalls

The most suitable period to see Papaz Deresi Waterfalls is spring and early summer. With the melting of snow waters at the end of winter, the stream flow significantly increases, and the waterfalls flow more powerfully. In mid-summer, the amount of water may decrease at some points. Autumn is also a favorable period for beautiful photos thanks to the colorful forest cover. In winter months, the trail becomes riskier as the rocks in the streambed can be wet and slippery.

To reach Bahçeköy Papaz Deresi Waterfalls, you first need to come to Saray district of Tekirdağ. There are regular minibus services from Saray to Bahçeköy village; it's important to check the minibus schedules in advance, especially for the return journey. Those coming by private car can head to Bahçeköy village via Saray. After reaching the village, the moderate difficulty hiking trail to the waterfalls begins. Its location approximately 2 hours from Istanbul makes this route suitable for a weekend trip.

The route starts from Bahçeköy village and proceeds downstream along Papaz Stream. By following the streambed, you reach consecutive waterfalls. After the third waterfall, you switch to a forest path, which connects to a dirt road. After crossing a small hill, Boğaz Waterfall greets you at the confluence of the two branches of Papaz Stream. On the way back to the village, you encounter the most impressive waterfall; therefore, it's important not to cut the route short. You need to allocate 3-5 hours for the entire trail.

The trail is considered a moderate-to-difficult route. The stones in the streambed can be wet and slippery; therefore, waterproof, sturdy-soled trekking shoes are definitely recommended. There are no sales points or facilities along the route; you should have enough water, food, and first aid supplies with you. Since the stream flow can rapidly increase during rainy periods, it's necessary to check the weather forecast in advance. The trail is not suitable for small children and those with mobility limitations.

The most striking photo spots on the route are the waterfall crossings. Boğaz Waterfall stands out with its natural frame formed at the confluence of two stream branches. The rocky sections along the stream and the dense forest area provide an ideal backdrop for water photos taken with long exposure technique. In spring, it's possible to see all shades of green together. The last waterfall on the way back to the village is also known as a strong photographic point.

There are no cafes or restaurants along the Papaz Deresi trail. You need to bring sandwiches, fruit, and plenty of water with you. In Saray town center, there are markets and small restaurants where you can meet your basic needs; you can stock up on provisions here before your visit.

3 to 5 hours is sufficient for the full trail covering all waterfalls. If you start early, you can dedicate most of the day to this route and return to Saray or Tekirdağ city center in the afternoon. It is stated that there are suitable areas around the stream for those who wish to camp; however, it is recommended to contact the local authorities before camping.
