Seyifler Castle

The most suitable period to visit Seyifler Castle is spring and autumn. During these seasons, air temperatures are more balanced, and the surroundings of the Sakarya River valley are covered with greenery. In summer, the rocky area around the castle can be quite hot during midday; therefore, it is more appropriate to plan summer visits for early morning or late afternoon. In winter, rainy and wet ground conditions can make movement difficult in the rocky area.

Seyifler Castle is located approximately 30 kilometers from Sakarya city center. It is possible to reach Ferizli district by public transportation. From Ferizli to Seyifler Village, going by private car or taxi is the most practical option. The castle is located at the entrance of Seyifler Village. Since public transportation options are limited, planning the visit with a private vehicle provides much easier access.

Seyifler Castle is a relatively small ruin area, measuring 80x80 meters. 1-2 hours is sufficient to explore the castle and photograph the surroundings. Those who want to enjoy the view of the Sakarya River valley and feel the historical atmosphere can allocate a little more time. It is also possible to combine the visit with the nearby Konuklu and Sarıahmetler Dam Ponds to create a day-long tour.

Depart from Sakarya to reach Ferizli district, then head towards Seyifler Village. After visiting the castle, you can also add Konuklu and Sarıahmetler Dam Ponds, which are located along the same route, to your itinerary. Half a day to a full day will be sufficient to complete this route.

The castle's location on a hill overlooking the old bed of the Sakarya River is suitable for wide-angle photographs encompassing the river valley and its surrounding lands. The standing wall remnants on the western and northern facades make for interesting subjects for close-up photographs reflecting the historical texture. It is also possible to photograph the confluence of the Çarksuyu and Sakarya River from the castle hill.

The castle surroundings consist of rocky and sloping terrain. It is important to wear sturdy walking shoes during the visit. For families with children and school groups, officials recommend moving under adult supervision. Since the castle is an open-air ruin, there are no facilities, toilets, or visitor centers; it is necessary to make the necessary preparations before the visit. In rainy weather, the wet rocky ground can become slippery, so it is better to avoid visiting under such conditions.

Seyifler Castle was built during the Byzantine period to control a strategically critical point in the region. Located on a hill overlooking the old bed of the Sakarya River, the castle served as an outpost guarding the passage route where the Çarksuyu and Sakarya River converged. Also known as Karaçepni Castle, the structure is considered one of more than twelve bridge castles identified in Sakarya. Although a large part of it has been destroyed today, the wall traces on its western and northern facades provide an idea of the castle's original plan.
