Ulugöl Nature Park

Summer months are the most preferred period for picnicking and camping by the lake. In autumn, when the leaves of the beech and hornbeam forest change color, the region takes on a different appearance, and many visitors specifically choose this period for photography. On foggy or rainy days, the scenery is overshadowed. One visitor stated that they went on a rainy day, and although the water lilies by the lake were beautiful, the weather somewhat spoiled the enjoyment. Checking the weather before going prevents disappointment.

The distance from Ordu city center varies between 63-74 km according to sources; the most reliable reference is to go via Gölköy. From Gölköy district center to Ulugöl, it is 14-17 km. The road is largely asphalt, but some visitors report that sections of the road are in poor condition, and it is recommended to drive carefully, especially in winter. Going by your own vehicle is the most practical way. Public transport options are limited.

2 hours is sufficient for walking around the lake, picnicking, and taking photos. For those who wish to stay in a bungalow and spend a night, the park turns into a longer stopover. Those who only want to spend time by the lake can easily fill half a day.

Bungalow houses and country houses are available for rent within the park, so there is no need to go elsewhere for accommodation. A restaurant and social facilities are also in the same area; there is an opportunity to barbecue and use a samovar. Those who want to stay closer to the city center can look for accommodation in Gölköy district center.

The cafeteria and buffet within the park meet basic needs. Visitors find the cafeteria's location good, the food quality high, and the prices reasonable. Barbecuing is allowed, and it is also possible to bring your own food and prepare it at the picnic tables. If you are planning a long trip, it is recommended to bring water and snacks.

Sources regarding the entrance fee are inconsistent. While some places state it is free, others mention different figures per person or per vehicle; it is healthiest to ask for the current tariff at the ticket office. Visitors report that despite vehicles not being allowed near the lake, some drivers still enter, which harms both the environment and the scenery. For the walking trail, choose sturdy shoes instead of flat-soled ones.

The water lilies and reeds by the lake are the most preferred shots. In autumn, the color transition of the forest, especially with the trees reflected in the lake, is a favorite of photographers. Some visitors compare the view to Borçka Karagöl. Photos taken before the fog lifts capture a different atmosphere, but clear weather is needed for a sharp view.
