Kabakdağ Village

The village's founding story dates back to the aftermath of the 1877 Ottoman-Russian War. Immigrants from around Batumi settled on this hillside, gradually establishing a settlement that grew to 180 households. Today, 20 houses have protected building status; old stone and wooden houses preserve the village's historical fabric. Being the only village in Ordu that combines organic farming with eco-tourism sets Kabakdağ apart from other village tours in the region.

Late spring and summer months are when the greenery is most vibrant. The vegetation on the hillsides becomes dense during these months, and trekking trails are easier to walk during this period. Although village roads remain open in winter, weather conditions may affect hiking plans.

The distance from Fatsa town center to the village is 8-9 kilometers. Along this road, river, lake, and sea views can be seen together. It is possible to reach it by any road vehicle, all four seasons. Going by your own car is the most practical option; public transport services may be limited, so confirm minibus schedules from Fatsa to the village with local information points before you go.

More than 100 local dishes are registered in the village, and production is largely organic: honey, eggs, dairy products, vegetables, and fruits come from the village's own lands. Zaprana Restaurant is known for its recipes unique to Georgian cuisine; the owner is known as "Melek Abla" (Sister Melek) in the village. Those who wish to try the local cuisine can make a reservation in advance.

The historic village square should be the first stop of your visit. From here, you can walk towards the registered old houses to see the village's architectural texture. Trekking trails winding through the rich flora are the most attractive aspect of the village for nature lovers. If you have time, you might also have the chance to catch local folk dance performances or village events.

From the higher parts of the village, river, lake, and sea views all fit into the same frame. The historic square and the facades of the old houses are suitable for shots reflecting the village's cultural fabric. Softer light in the morning hours provides an advantage for photography.

There is no fee or restriction for entering the village. However, as the operating hours of private businesses such as restaurants and accommodation may vary, confirm by phone before your visit. If you plan to go on trekking trails, you need to have appropriate shoes and sufficient water.
