Düz Mahalle Church, located in the center of Ordu, is a gray stone structure built by Greeks in the 19th century, now operating as the Black Sea Theater and exhibition space.
Düz Mahalle Church stands on Düzmahalle Sinema Street, in the center of Ordu. It was built by Greeks in the second half of the 19th century; some sources indicate 1853. The rectangular-plan structure, with its gray stone walls and barrel arches on the front facade, reflects the religious architecture of the period.
The church lost its congregation after 1915. Between 1937 and 1977, it was used first as a prison, then as a fire station. After undergoing restoration, it was opened first as the 75th Anniversary Republic Stage, and then as the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Black Sea Theater. Today, there is a stage inside, and exhibitions are occasionally held. One visitor noted that "although the exterior looks like a church, the interior does not give any church atmosphere," while another praised a painting exhibition they saw there.
Note: The structure is located within an urban protected area and is considered one of the examples showcasing the region's multicultural past. There is also a place nearby where the Protestant community operates.
