Kaleköy Castle

The castle is located just above Kaleköy, from which it takes its name. Records indicate it was built in the 14th century. The most visible parts remaining today are the ruins of three cupolas, the surrounding rock tombs, and large city walls. Some of the tombstones are from ancient times, weathered but still with recognizable motifs.

Mesudiye is one of Ordu's high-altitude districts. In winter, the weather gets harsh, and road conditions can change. The period from late spring to late summer is more comfortable in terms of both road and weather. Morning hours are also advantageous for photography as the light falls directly on the ruins.

From Ordu city center to Mesudiye is approximately 114 km. From Mesudiye center to Kaleköy is only 6 km, and the road is entirely asphalt. Going by your own vehicle is the easiest option. Car rental or a taxi in Mesudiye are also alternatives. Due to limited public transport options, a private vehicle is recommended.

The castle area is not large. Exploring the cupola ruins, city walls, and tombstones takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. If you want to spend the day in Mesudiye, you can combine it with other nearby natural spots for a half-day trip.

The journey from Ordu city center to Mesudiye is already long; therefore, it makes sense to plan Kaleköy along with other stops in Mesudiye. Arrive in Mesudiye center in the morning for breakfast, then travel the 6 km to visit the castle, and start your return journey in the afternoon. This schedule flows smoothly.

The area is an unrestored ruin, left in its natural state. Wear walking shoes, as the ground can be uneven. There is no guard or information board, so a little research beforehand is useful. On rainy days, the road and area can become slippery.
