Başkotanı Bridge

The bridge is open all year, but spring and summer are when the surrounding greenery is most vibrant. The water of the Melet River flows more abundantly in these months, and the vegetation around the wooden bridge turns dark green. Those who visit in autumn see a different color palette, with yellowing leaves contrasting well with the wooden texture. In winter, rain and snow are expected in the region, so it's advisable to research road conditions beforehand.

To reach the bridge from Ordu city center, you first need to go to Mesudiye or Kabadüz district. The two districts are about an hour apart, and the bridge is right on this border. Going by your own car is the most comfortable option; careful driving is essential on the narrow and winding Black Sea roads. Those using public transport can first go to the district center and then continue by local vehicle or taxi. There may be a lack of signs along the way, so download a map application in advance.

30-45 minutes is enough to see the bridge itself and take photos. But if you're going all the way to the region, it makes sense to add other natural spots in Mesudiye and Kabadüz to your itinerary. Instead of planning a single-day trip, it's more efficient to include it in a regional tour.

Start from Ordu city center and first stop in Kabadüz, then proceed along the Melet River to the bridge. On the way back, you can pass through villages on the Mesudiye side and also check out other historical bridges in the region, such as Sarpdere or Akoluk bridges. All are from a similar period, wooden structures. This way, you will see several historical bridges on a single route.

Shots taken from the riverbank, from below the bridge, are the most preferred angles. In the afternoon hours, when the light hits from the side, the texture of the wood and the shadows appear more distinct. Wide-angle shots from the opposite slope are also a good option to capture the bridge's integrated view with the river.

The bridge is a wooden and old structure. The ground may become slippery depending on weather conditions, so walk carefully, especially on rainy days. There is no lighting in the vicinity, so visiting after sunset is not recommended. Phone reception may be weak in the area, so download directions and a map beforehand.

Başkotanı Bridge is listed by the Ordu Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism as part of nature-culture tourism. Although it belongs to the same period as other wooden bridges in the region (Sarpdere, Akoluk), it stands out with its length and aesthetic details. It still serves as a real transportation function between Kabadüz and Mesudiye.
