Titiopolis Ancient City

Anamur and its surroundings have a very hot and humid climate in summer. The most suitable periods to visit Titiopolis are April–May and September–October. During these months, the weather is suitable for touring, and the archaeological site is less crowded. Since temperatures rise significantly in the afternoon during July–August, it is more appropriate to plan your visit in the early morning or late afternoon during the summer months.

Titiopolis is located in Kalınören village, Anamur district of Mersin province. Reaching Anamur from Mersin city center via the D-400 coastal road takes approximately 3–3.5 hours. Private car is the most practical option; choosing a compact car makes it easier as the roads within the village are narrow. Public transportation options from Anamur to the village are limited; it is useful to research local minibus schedules in advance.

1–2 hours are sufficient for the ruins of Titiopolis. However, since Anamur also has Mamure Castle and Anemurium Ancient City, combining these three points will easily fill a full day. If you are coming from a distant place, you might consider staying overnight in Anamur.

For a day centered in Anamur, you can try the following order: Start with Anemurium Ancient City, then move on to Titiopolis, and in the afternoon, visit Mamure Castle with its coastal location. The distances between the three points are short, so you can easily travel by car. Ending the day at a fish restaurant on Anamur beach can also be a nice option.

In Titiopolis, the seating steps of the ancient theater and the arch and wall remains of the bath structures offer interesting photo frames. Wide-angle shots showing the green mountain silhouette of Anamur in the background also reflect the natural texture surrounding the archaeological site. Afternoon hours, when the light is softer, yield better results in terms of stone textures and shadow play.

Restaurant options are extremely limited in the immediate vicinity of Kalınören village. It is a safer approach to eat in Anamur town center before your visit or to bring your own prepared food. Anamur is known for its banana groves and fresh seafood; small restaurants in the town center offer competent options for fish and kebabs.

Titiopolis is more of an open-air ruin site than a well-maintained archaeological site. The ground may contain embedded stones, pits, and uneven areas; therefore, sturdy shoes are essential. Shade is quite limited, so a hat and sunscreen should definitely be with you. Since medical intervention facilities are limited in the immediate vicinity, carrying a basic first aid kit would also be a smart precaution.
