Tarsus, with its Mediterranean climate, offers very hot and humid weather during the summer months. For open-air mound visits, the periods between March-May and September-November provide much more suitable conditions. Temperatures are milder during these months, and crowds are smaller. If you plan to visit in July-August, choosing the early morning hours will protect you from prolonged sun exposure.

Gözlükule Mound is located in the Tarsus district, approximately 30 km east of Mersin city center. Those coming by private car can use the Mersin-Adana highway and follow the route from the Tarsus exit. For those wishing to come by public transport, regular minibus and bus services operate from Mersin bus terminal to Tarsus. After reaching Tarsus, it is possible to go to the mound by taxi or local transport. Thanks to the mound's proximity to Tarsus's historical center, you can include it in your itinerary while exploring the district.

Gözlükule Mound can easily be visited in a single day along with other historical sites in Tarsus. Start your morning with Cleopatra's Gate, visit the Historic American College, then proceed to Gözlükule Mound. You can have lunch at restaurants around Tarsus's historical bazaar. If you also add the Tarsus Museum to your program, you can grasp the history of the district from a much more comprehensive perspective. Approximately 6-7 hours are sufficient to complete this day trip from Mersin.

1-2 hours is sufficient for Gözlükule Mound itself. However, considering the historical fabric of Tarsus, we recommend allocating at least half a day, preferably a full day, to the district. It is possible to come for a day trip from Mersin; if you combine Tarsus with other places to visit in Mersin city center, a 2-3 day Mersin program will be very productive.

Tarsus is a well-established district offering the flavors of Mersin cuisine. After your visit, be sure to try the duo of tantuni and şalgam suyu at the restaurants in Tarsus bazaar; this duo has become a symbol of the Mersin-Tarsus region. Thanks to its elevation, Gözlükule Mound offers a wide perspective of the Tarsus plain and its surroundings. The top of the mound is a suitable spot for impressive landscape photos, especially near sunset. The mound also contains interesting details for those who want to take documentary-style photos of archaeological excavation sites. Since the mound is an open-air archaeological site, it is important to wear comfortable walking shoes; the ground can be uneven. In summer, sun protection and plenty of water should be with you.
