Uşakizade Mansion (Latife Hanım Mansion)

Uşakizade Mansion was built in 1860 as a summer residence by the Uşakizades, one of İzmir's most established families. Göztepe was one of İzmir's coolest and greenest areas at that time; this was a decisive factor in the family choosing this neighborhood. The building bears the typical features of upper-class residential architecture of the Ottoman period: it has a three-story plan layout, including a basement, first, and second floor.

The mansion's true place in Turkish history stems from the event that took place on January 29, 1923. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was hosted in this mansion after the liberation of İzmir from Greek occupation and married Latife Hanım here. This marriage, which took place only a few months before the proclamation of the Republic, gave the building a historical symbolic quality. For this reason, the mansion is also known among the public as Latife Hanım Mansion.

The mansion is open to visitors every weekday from 09:00 to 17:30. Weekend visits are not possible; you need to plan accordingly. While it is a place that can be visited throughout the year, during İzmir's busy tourism season, especially in the summer months, making an appointment in advance becomes much more critical.

Visits made in the early morning hours are generally calmer. Considering that school groups may intensify around noon, you can prefer between 09:00-11:00 if possible. Autumn and spring months are the most balanced periods in terms of both weather conditions and crowds.

The mansion is located at Mithatpaşa Caddesi No:100 in the Göztepe district of İzmir. It is quite easy to reach by public transport: you can arrive in a few minutes by walking from the Göztepe Station of the İzmir Metro. Many ESHOT bus lines using the Mithatpaşa Caddesi route also pass near the mansion.

If you are coming by car, you can look for parking on Mithatpaşa Caddesi; however, especially during working hours, the street is quite busy, so public transport or a taxi might be a more practical choice. The mansion is approximately 5-6 km away from İzmir city center.

You can combine your visit to Uşakizade Mansion with other historical sites around Göztepe and Bornova. After visiting the mansion first thing in the morning, you can take a short walk in Göztepe Park, then head to Alsancak or Kordon to experience İzmir's seaside atmosphere.

If your interest in history continues, Atatürk Museum and Kemeraltı Bazaar are also points that can be visited on the same day. A great route emerges for those who want to see both the Republican era heritage and the Ottoman trade tradition of İzmir in a single day.

Göztepe is one of İzmir's established neighborhoods, so there are various cafe and restaurant options in its vicinity. Along Mithatpaşa Caddesi, you can find small cafes serving İzmir-style breakfast. If your visit takes place in the morning, you can enjoy a breakfast experience unique to İzmir at these cafes before or after touring the mansion.

For a more comprehensive dining experience, the Alsancak and Kordon area is always a good alternative. We recommend heading to Kemeraltı Bazaar for fresh seafood, olive oil appetizers, and İzmir's famous boyoz and kumru.

Since the mansion is part of the İzmir Private Turkish College, it may be closed to visitors on school calendar days and event days. Confirming the current status by phone or social media channels before you go will prevent unexpected disappointment. We also recommend asking your guide in advance if photography is allowed inside the building.

The most striking view of the mansion from the outside is obtained from among the trees framing the historic facade. Especially in spring, when the greenery is at its peak, exterior photos turn out quite impressive. The mansion's garden gate and entrance section are also among the frequently preferred spots for photos.

Inside, rooms furnished with period furniture and decoration offer interesting shots for those seeking a historical atmosphere. The section where the wedding room is located stands out as the area where visitors spend the most time and take photos.
