Izmir International Fair Area (IEFF / Kültürpark)

The Izmir International Fair is one of Turkey's longest-running international fairs. Initiated in the early years of the Republic as a symbol of economic development, the fair continues its existence today with both a commercial and cultural identity. Organized under İZFAŞ, the event opens its doors at Kültürpark in Konak at the beginning of September each year.

Kültürpark, the fairground, is a large green area located right in the city center. With its palm trees, lawns, sports facilities, and historical buildings, this park is a place of relaxation and socialization where Izmir residents spend time throughout the year. During the fair period, the area takes on a completely different appearance with stands, stages, and large crowds of visitors.

If you want to experience the fair during its period, the first two weeks of September are the most suitable time. During this period, dozens of events, concerts, talks, and workshops are held simultaneously in the area. Visitor density significantly increases on weekends; if you want to avoid crowds, choosing weekday mornings offers a much more comfortable experience.

For those who want to visit Kültürpark solely as a green area, spring (April-May) and autumn (October) months are ideal. Since Izmir summers are hot, staying outdoors for long periods, especially at noon, can be tiring.

The historic fairground within Kültürpark is located in Izmir's Konak district and is one of the city's most central points. You can reach it by walking after getting off at Basmane or Çankaya stations using the Izmir Metro. Most of the bus lines passing through every point of the city go via the Konak route.

If you come by private car, finding parking in the surrounding streets can be difficult during the fair period. Public transport or a taxi is therefore a much more practical option. To reach the Fuar Izmir complex in Gaziemir, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality buses or private vehicles can be used.

During the fair period, numerous food and beverage stalls are set up within Kültürpark. These stalls, offering a wide range of options from traditional Izmir street flavors to international cuisines, are among the most frequented spots by visitors. It is possible to try local delicacies such as boyoz, kumru, and Izmir-style meatballs here.

Around Kültürpark, especially in the Alsancak and Konak districts, there are restaurants and cafes to suit every budget. Combining a fair visit with lunch in Alsancak is a great way to incorporate Izmir's gastronomic culture into your day.

The Lausanne Gate entrance of Kültürpark is one of the fair's most iconic photo spots. The historic gate and the palm tree rows around it offer a powerful frame reflecting Izmir's Republican era heritage. The old fair buildings within the park also provide an interesting backdrop for those who want to take architectural photographs.

During the fair period, the illuminated stands and stages in the evening create a completely different atmosphere after sunset. These hours are very productive for night photography. The event stages set up on the lawns are also suitable spots for crowded and lively shots.

During the fair period, visitor density can be very high on weekends. Especially during popular concert and event times, moving around the area can become difficult; it is recommended to review the program in advance and go early to the events you are interested in.

While all concerts and events within the fair are free, a symbolic gate fee is paid upon entry to the area. A discounted rate applies to those with student IDs. Both cash and card options are generally accepted, but queues can form at ATMs on crowded days.

If you are combining your fair visit with an Izmir trip, you might consider the following itinerary: In the early morning, visit Kemeraltı Bazaar to feel the historical texture, then head to Kültürpark in the afternoon. Enter through the Lausanne Gate, first explore the historic fair buildings and the park's green areas, then browse the fair stands. In the evening, you can complete your day by attending a talk or concert held in front of the İsmet İnönü Art Center.

If you also want to see the modern Fuar Izmir complex in Gaziemir, it would be more efficient to dedicate a separate half-day to it; the two areas are in different locations and of different scales.
