Yıldız Clock Tower

Yıldız Clock Tower was built in 1890 in honor of the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdülhamid II's ascension to the throne. Rising in the southwest corner of the Yıldız Mosque courtyard within the Yıldız Palace complex, the structure is considered one of the most original examples of Ottoman-era clock towers. The three-story tower, approximately 20 meters high, tapers upwards; on the ground floor, pointed arched openings on each facade, and on the upper floors, an increasingly slender silhouette are noticeable.

The first floor of the tower features four inscriptions, while the second floor has different architectural ornaments. This structure, bearing Neo-Gothic influences, concretely reflects the Western influence in Ottoman architecture of the period. According to historical records, the tower also witnessed an assassination attempt on a sultan; with this feature, it is important not only architecturally but also in terms of political history.
