Although Atatürk Arboretum offers a unique beauty in all four seasons of the year, the most enchanting period is undoubtedly autumn. During the leaf-shedding process, which lasts from mid-October to early November, the area is adorned with a thousand shades of yellow, orange, and red; every corner looks like a painting. In spring, with newly sprouting leaves and blooming trees, the area gains a completely different vitality; April and May are very productive visiting periods in this regard.

In summer, it is possible to escape the heat somewhat thanks to the shaded paths, but on crowded weekends, the area can be overflowing. Coming on weekday mornings offers a calmer experience and allows you to make the best use of the light for photography. In winter, as visiting hours are shorter, it is recommended to set off before noon.

Atatürk Arboretum is located in the Bahçeköy neighborhood of Sarıyer district on the European Side of Istanbul. For those preferring public transport, the most practical option is the 42M bus departing from Zincirlikuyu Metrobus Station; this line takes you directly to Bahçeköy. You can also use lines going towards Bahçeköy from Levent Metro station.

For those coming by car, it's about a 35-minute drive from Beşiktaş. There is a parking area near the entrance of the arboretum, which is located on the Kemerburgaz - Bahçeköy road. Simply search for Atatürk Arboretum directly in navigation apps. Considering traffic density, setting off early in the morning, especially on weekends, provides great convenience.

Immediately after entering the arboretum, following the main path will help you grasp the general layout of the area. Your first stop could be the ponds; the groups of trees around the three ponds offer a perfect backdrop for photos, especially in autumn. After a short tour around the ponds, you can delve into the inner paths to discover different tree species.

Continue your walk by taking breaks at the natural spring water fountains; taking a lunch break at one of the picnic areas makes it easier to spend the whole day here. If you want to see the entire area, comfortable walking shoes are a must; some paths have uneven terrain. Planning your visit for 2 to 4 hours will be sufficient to explore the area without feeling rushed.

Atatürk Arboretum serves as an open-air studio for photography enthusiasts. The edges of the three ponds, especially in the early morning, create incredible shots when combined with reflections on the water's surface and colorful trees in the background. In autumn, the leaf-strewn paths are perfect for perspective photos that give a sense of depth.

The natural spring water fountains and wooden bridges scattered throughout the area also make good subjects for interesting compositions. The best light during the day is captured between 09:00-11:00 in the morning and 16:00-18:00 in the late afternoon. While wide-angle lenses are ideal for conveying the size of the area, macro lenses also offer noteworthy shots of moss-covered stones and detailed leaf textures.

The arboretum does not have a comprehensive food and beverage facility within its own premises; therefore, planning your visit by preparing a picnic basket is the smartest option. Since bringing food and drinks from outside is allowed, it is sufficient to bring sandwiches, fruits, and water with you. Although there are natural spring water fountains within the area, it is recommended to bring your own drinking water.

For those looking for more dining options, there are various cafes and restaurants in the nearby Bahçeköy neighborhood. Especially the establishments around Belgrade Forest offer a suitable environment to relax and have a snack after a nature walk. Places in Bahçeköy that offer village breakfast are also a good option for before or after your visit.

The arboretum is closed on Mondays; you need to reschedule your visit plans if they fall on this day. While the closing time extends to 20:00 in summer, the gates close at 17:00 in winter; it is recommended to set off before noon, especially during periods of short daylight.

Since the paths in the area are mostly dirt and have uneven terrain, wearing comfortable, non-slip walking shoes is very important. Stroller and wheelchair use may be difficult due to the nature of the ground. Especially on weekends, entrance fees are higher compared to weekdays, so it would be beneficial to adjust your budget accordingly.
